Le projet padel rue Castagnary in Paris 15 could well finally materialize if we believe the town hall of the 15th arrondissement of Paris. The already enormous budgets initially planned for this project could “double” to the point of exceeding 1,6 million euros for 6 courts of padel !

The city of Paris and the UCPA do not let go

In 2016, following a call for tenders criticized by participants, the City of Paris announced the establishment of a padel in the 15th arrondissement of Paris. The UCPA had confirmed it to us by telling us that it hoped to see the club open before 2020.

But that was before all the problems encountered by this project since 2016 ...

On the menu, 6 courts of padel indoor (including 2 singles) to allow Parisians to discover this booming sport throughout Europe.

Despite an ever-increasing number of players in the Paris region, in 2021, still no club padel in intramural Paris ...

plan padel ucpa paris castagnary

The site plans were made, the 3D too. Funding validated by UCPA. The City of Paris agreed. And yet still nothing.

It must be said that the rue Castagnary site is a bit special. The current sports location has been completely abandoned for many years. Today he is the target of squatters, which somewhat despairs the neighborhood. One would have thought that this element would have made things happen. But no.

The obstacle course

The City of Paris and the neighbors did not really help this project. Between administrative complexity, problem of cutting down a tree (the ecological group) and neighbors who fear noise pollution related to the activity padel, the project of the UCPA has logically fallen behind.

If we are used to seeing the very French administrative complexities, we are surprised to also see part of the neighborhood blocking this project. Between avenue, street and railway line, padel or not, the site is already noisy. Therefore, it seems unlikely to us that the padel increases the noise pollution already present in the sector.

Moreover, in view of the big problems of drugs and squats on the site in question, the club of padel would actually enhance the place and could drive away all these problems.

Eric Bassi, AFP journalist, resident of the 15th district, allows us to know a little more about this project padel Parisian thanks to his recent intervention during a virtual meeting with the town hall of the 15th. (District Council meeting)

The draft padel UCPA Square Castagnary "is still relevant" according to the deputy mayor of the 15th, Anthony Samana.

Ms. Kermadon, the sports assistant also explains that “lthe cost has been doubled”And (…)“spoke about it with Tony Estanguet last week ”.

The 810 euro project planned for 000 therefore increases to nearly 2016 million euros. The icing on the cake, if the club finally sees the light of day, the UCPA could after a few years, perhaps even as early as 1,6, return the keys because of a temporary lease (precarious lease) and raze the club in the framework of the Olympic Games ...
