Particularly among the men, when we look at the pairs registered for the competition, one point stands out: more than 70% of pairs do not play together regularly. Apart from the Blanqué / Leygue pair, big favorite of the men's tournament, all teams seem to have been formed… by default.
Pairs dating from the beginning of the year
In fact, what you need to know is that teams register in March, for a competition that takes place in September. Suffice to say that in six months, things can happen, like a separation... When you look at the list of pairs, you can see the duo Quentin Ayuso / Loïc Le Panse, who no longer actually play together. Or, the pair Dorian De Meyer / Thomas Vanbauce, whose separation is known to be difficult.
In the end, a large majority of the registered pairs did not no longer used to playing togetherThe players have become accustomed to playing with other teammates, to having new automatisms... which could have a direct impact on these French Championships, by creating an imbalance.
A new system needed?
Shouldn't the FFT take this into account when organising the event? We know how difficult it can be to run a tournament like this and that there is no miracle recipe. However, Couldn't an alternative be found?
Apart from the pairs coming out of the regionals (like Fonteny / Boronad for example), all the other pairs were automatically qualified, based on their ranking. So, couldn't movements in these teams be allowed? For example, allow Thomas Vanbauce to evolve with Maxime Joris during the French Championships, since they play 90% of international tournaments together…
With such a system, we could allow players who have separated to play with another partner and two partners from the international circuit to participate together in the French Championships...
It was her brother who one day told her to accompany him to a padel court, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the retransmission of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
