In what will probably remain as one of the matches of the year, Arturo Coello et Agustín Tapia have validated their ticket for the Bordeaux P2 semi-finals after a titanic battle face Momo Gonzalez et Jon sanz. Final score: 6/3 6/7 7/6, at the end of 2h24 game.

A quarter-final of crazy intensity

Everything had started well for the world number 1s, who took the first set 6/3 thanks to a solid start. But Gonzalez and Sanz, surely liberated from having nothing left to lose, raised their level to get back on track by pocketing the second set in the tie-break (7/6).

The third set was a real arm wrestling, with ultra-physical exchanges, exceptional points… and two match points saved by Coello/Tapia in the final tie-break, before they finally concluded 13/11 to pocket this completely unbreathable tie-break.

Gonzalez and Sanz bring out the best version of themselves

Despite the defeat, Momo Gonzalez and Jon Sanz can leave with honors. Their level of play, their defensive intensity and their fighting spirit on each point have pushed Coello and Tapia in their entrenchments. Jon sanz let it go his title acquired last year with Coki Nieto, valuable points to defend which will escape the powerful left-hander.

Coello & Tapia: a full-scale test before the semi-finals

For Coello and Tapia, this match is much more than just a quarterfinal : it's a mental and physical test won in pain, which will give them even more confidence for the futureIn the semi-finals, they will face Paquito Navarro and Lucas Bergamini who overcame Nieto/Yanguas and who will therefore try to shake up the world number 1s.
