After Madrid and Rotterdam, the players of the Premier Padel Tour (September 14-22). Last meeting before the Greenweez Paris Major Premier Padel which will start at the end of September, the Spanish P2 deserves to be watched closely. Here are 5 good reasons to follow it this week.
1- Coello wants to be a prophet in his country
Born in the province of Valladolid, Arturo Coello has never won on his home turf. However, he has played in two consecutive finals there, first against the Lebron/Galan pair in 2022 (defeat 6/4 7/6, alongside Fernando Belasteguin), then last year against Stupaczuk/Di Nenno (defeat on the wire 4/6 6/4 7/6, alongside Agustin Tapia). There is no doubt that “King Arturo”, associated with the “Mozart of Catamarca”, has marked this event on his agenda…
2- All the best will be there
Although Valladolid is a P2 category tournament, the draw is as tough as a P1. In addition to Coello/Tapia (TS1), we will find on the tracks Chingotto/Galan (TS2), Lebron/Di Nenno (TS3), Yanguas/Stupaczuk (TS4) as well as Cardona/Navarro (TS5). Same thing in the women's tournament where, with the exception of Béa Gonzalez (wounded), we will find the titles of Rotterdam Sanchez/Josemaria (TS1), Triay/Fernandez (TS2), Ortega/Araujo (TS3) or Castello/Salazar (TS5). Note that in the absence of Bea Gonzalez, Delfi Brea is associated with Andrea Ustero (TS3).
3- "Chingalan" in the hot seat
We were telling you about it in recent days: the pair composed of Federico Chingotto and Alejandro Galan are not at their best. The cause is the doubts expressed by Alejandro Galan. Once again credited with a rather poor game in the final in Rotterdam Last Sunday (6/2 6/2 defeat against Coello/Tapia), Galan committed 12 unforced errors for only 12 winning points. After three successive defeats in the final against the number 1s, the outsiders must recover!
4- Follow Alix
The finals of the French championship last weekend left their mark. While Alix Collombon and Léa Godallier, our two French women competing on the international circuit, won their 4e title in a row (the 7thefor Alix), it was in pain. Pain in the right wrist for Collombon, sprained ankle for Godallier… This week, only Alix is traveling to Spain. Let’s hope the wrist holds up, especially since the Paris meeting at Roland-Garros is looming…
5- There will be a show!
There are already some interesting matches to follow. In the first round, Juan Tello and Fernando Belasteguin will face the new pair of Valentino Libaak and Victor Ruiz. We will also have to follow the surprise semi-finalists from Rotterdam, the "gunners" Alex Chozas and Leo Augsburger: will they be able to confirm their current good form in Valladolid? In the women's competition, we will have to see how the Brea/Ustero pair finds its feet, and also monitor the result of Alix Collombon. Associated with Aracelli Martinez, she faces a pair that qualified in the first round and could play against the seeded 1, Sanchez/Josemaria, in the next round.
