Our colleagues from Padel Addict offer solutions to regain the upper hand in a match of paddle when you're behind. Here are 6 tips to try to change the dynamics of the game and try to get back into the game.
1. Reset your mind
It is crucial to let go of past mistakes. Forget about lost points and focus on what's next. Changing your strategy can also help reduce unforced errors and to regain confidence on the field.
2. Limit direct errors
Take a moment with your partner to analyze your mistakes. Often, it is not your opponents' shots that are the problem, but your own mistakes. Play more simply, take fewer unnecessary risks on the stolen or lobsters, and focus on controlled shots.
3. Identify your opponents' weaknesses
If your opponents are playing at a high level, identify their weak points. This could be difficulty on high balls, a less accurate shot or poor anticipation. Aim your shots at these areas to gain the advantage.
4. Find the right voltage level
The right mental attitude is essential. If you are too relaxed, you may lose intensity, but if you are too nervous, you may force your shots. Adopt a balanced voltage, which allows you to stay focused without rushing.
5. Break your opponents' rhythm
When your opponents are dictating the pace of the game, slow it down with lobsters to tiny (small low balls). This can destabilize them and force them to play a less comfortable style.
6. Vary your shots
If your opponents get used to your playing patterns, you become predictable. Don't hesitate to innovate by varying your shots, trajectories or placements. This can make the difference and surprise your opponents.

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
