It took three sets to decide between the two finalist pairs of the FIP GOLD of Lyon . In a high-level final, the Spanish Jairus Baptist et Francisco Guerrero triumphed over the Argentine pair Leo Augsburger et Alex Chozas (6-4, 6-7, 6-4), thus winning the first title of this prestigious tournament.
A first round controlled by Augsburger/Chozas
The start of the match was marked by an exchange of services without difficulty on both sides. At 1-1, the first turning point came on a decisive point where Chozas/Augsburger managed to achieve the break. This first advantage was reinforced thanks to a more patient tactic than usual, with powerful but judicious smashes. Opposite, Bautista/Guerrero is holding up well, particularly thanks to the viper destabilizing of Francisco Guerrero . However, the Argentines remain focused, with a Augsburgers very solid in defense, patient with high lobs and aggressive in key moments. They end up winning this first set 6-4.
A very hard-fought second set
The second set started in the same vein, with the Argentinians focused and determined. However, Baptist et Guerrero manage to shake them up with constant aggression, allowing them to break at 2-1. The Argentine efforts soon bear fruit, and thanks to a superb exit from the track by Leo Augsburger , they manage to break immediately. The two pairs trade blows until a tense tie-break. At 5-5, a missed volley from Augsburgers and an aggressive attack of Baptist sealed the fate of this round, won 7-5 by the Spaniards.
Third set for Bautista and Guerrero
The last set starts strong, with an Argentinian pair still as aggressive on the volley. But it's good Bautista/Guerrero who takes the lead by taking advantage of a bit of luck, making a break at 1-1. Frustration wins over the Argentines, who commit more fouls, offering opportunities to Baptist . The latter links together winning lobs, while Guerrero continues to shine in defense. At 5-4, the Spaniards remain unfazed and conclude the match with a final break, winning the set 6-4.
Final victory: 6-4, 6-7, 6-4

This men's final of the FIP GOLD Lyon kept all its promises, offering a high-level show. If Chozas and Augsburger once again pushed their opponents to play three sets, they lost to a more consistent and perhaps physically fresher Spanish pair. Jairus Baptist et Francisco Guerrero leave Lyon with the trophy for the very first FIP GOLD organized in the capital of Gaul.
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
