The "french day” from Betclic Premier Padel Bordeaux P2 started this Wednesday afternoon and Jessica Ginier et Carla Toully were the first tricolors to enter the central track. The two French women holding a wild-card were opposed to young Spanish women Marina lobo et Sofia Saiz.

Jessica and Carla fought very well on the central track of the Arkéa Arena, facing a pair who committed a significant number of mistakes throughout the meeting...

The advantage for French women

If the draw was not the most obvious for Jess Ginier and Carla Touly, the French could still rejoice at not having inherited a seed for their first match. However, young Sofia Saiz and Marina Lobo had some bite on the track...during the first two games. The Iberians took the service of the French from the first game of the match and offered themselves, from the following engagement of the Tricolores, double-break points.

But a few strokes of brilliance allowed the Frenchies not to be three games behind. Behind, the Spanish have completely lost their bearings and began to make a series of mistakes and get frustrated. Consequently, this set which they had started well, clearly turned to their disadvantage: 6/3 for Ginier and Touly who saw their aggressiveness at the net rewarded.

The Spanish Awakening

Completely stunned and frustrated, the Spanish started the second round very badly, conceding the entry break. The public, more and more present in the room, pushed behind the French players who seemed to have the match in hand.

But unfortunately for Carla and Jess, a burst of pride allowed the Spanish to regain their break and completely return to this meeting. Marina Lobo and Sofia Saiz started cheering each other on again, and still managed to break, at the best of times, to get back to a set everywhere in this match: 6/4 for Lobo/Saiz.

Cruel disillusionment

The third set was much hungrier than the two previous ones. Each team seemed to find their bearings on the track, despite still many mistakes from both teams. The debates were balanced and neither team managed to make a break during the first games.

Marina Lobo and Sofia Saiz were the first to break in this last act, at the worst moment for the French women. But while they were used for the 5/3 meeting, the Spanish saw the public's favorite pair return with panache and string together three consecutive games! Much stronger than their opponents at the very end of the match, the French served for the match.

Unfortunately, this game was a little missed for Jess and Carla, and we headed to a decisive tie-break. And if the French women made yet another better start than their rivals who seemed more and more feverish, they were caught once again by Lobo and Saiz. The favorites got the first match point… and managed to convert it…

Final score: 3/6 6/4 7/6 (5) for Marina Lobo and Sofia Saiz who qualify for the second round. They will meet Aranzazu Osoro and Marta Marrero tomorrow.

This defeat will hurt the morale of the French but the “French Day” continues in Bordeaux, with an equally interesting program for the other French players!

Gwenaelle Souyri

It was his brother who one day told him to accompany him on a track. padel, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the broadcast of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
