Since the start of the season,  Juan Lebrón  clearly displays its ambition:  to return to the very top of world padel . And with  Leo Augsburg The message is often the same. The Argentinian makes no secret of it: his goal is to help the “Lobo” regain the top spot in the world.

On paper, the project makes sense.  Lebrón brings experience, the knowledge gained from major events. , While  Leo Augsburg  He embodies one of the biggest rises in the circuit. At only 21 years old, the Argentinian has already gained a real dimension and established himself as one of the most dangerous players of the moment.

But if we look at the figures more closely,  The reality of the ranking is far less flattering. .

A duo still too far from the top

Today, in the  Race ,  Tapia / Coello  dominate with  2 560 points , just in front of  Galan / Chingotto , which point to  2 290 points .

Behind them, the gap is already very clear.
 Lebrón / Augsburger  only count  1 170 points .

In other words, the Spanish-Argentine pair possesses  less than half of the total number of leaders And that's precisely the problem:  At the moment, they are not yet really fighting for the number 1 spot , but rather to remain firmly established in the group of the best pairs behind the two untouchables of the moment.

Before looking up, be careful not to look back

Because while Lebrón and Augsburger are trying to close the gap with the two dominant pairs,  The pressure also comes from behind .

New alliances, aiming for significant points, remain poised to pounce. And in a season where the gaps can quickly shift over two or three major tournaments,  Premature disposal can be very costly .

Clear,  Lebrón doesn't just have a problem reaching the summit. He also has a ranking to secure in a very competitive area.

To aim for first place, you would almost need a perfect season

And that's where the real problem arises. If  Lebrón and Augsburger  genuinely want to believe in reaching the top spot in the world by the end of the season.  their second half of the year should be nothing short of exceptional .

First, they should almost  monopolize the major events , and in particular the  majors . Clear,  They would probably need to win at least two of the three remaining ones.  to inject 4000 points and seriously catch up to the top.

Then, they can no longer afford the slightest irregularity.  Reaching the quarter-finals of a P1 or P2 tournament will not be enough. . As long as  Tapia / Coello  et  Galan / Chingotto  They play the finals on Sunday while Lebrón and Leo leave the tournament on Friday.  The gap continues to widen mechanically. .

Finally, simply winning matches and accumulating points will not be enough.  They will also have to directly defeat the pairs that currently dominate them. And if possible  before the final , to prevent the leaders from continuing to pull ahead. Because in this race,  Scoring points is no longer enough: you also have to make others lose them. .

A logical ambition, but a much harsher reality.

The ambition of  Juan Lebrón  There's nothing absurd about it. A player of his caliber should aim for the top. And with  Leo Augsburg He chose a partner capable of turning a match around at any moment.

But today,  The race for number 1 seems more like a very long-term objective than an immediate threat. .

To have any hope of believing it,  Lebrón and Augsburger will have to maintain an almost flawless run for several months. while hoping for a real halt to the two pairs who currently dominate the circuit.

And for the moment, that's precisely the problem:  Tapia/Coello and Galán/Chingotto leave almost nothing for anyone .

Benjamin Dupouy

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
