Current 4th in the world , the Iberian pair Marta Ortega / Sofia Araujo has had an interesting start to the season but is struggling to win a title in 2025 . Can they aim higher or are they limited to this rank of 4th pair in the world ?
Constant progress but limits?
The pair Spanish-Portuguese , reformed in June 2024 , has experienced great momentum with two titles en 2024 :
- NewGiza P2 (October)
- Genova P2 (July)
It was during this last victory at Genova P2 that Sofia Araujo entered history by becoming the first Portuguese woman to win a tournament Premier Padel , after an exploit in final against the world number 1, Josemaría / Sánchez (6/3 7/6).

The top 3 within reach?
En 2025 , Ortega (7ᵉ) and Araujo (8ᵉ) are seed n ° 4 on the various tournaments. Their regularity is undeniable with one final and three semi-finals en four tournaments , but they struggle to get past the best pairs:
- Riyadh P1 – Semi-final vs. Josemaría / Sánchez (n°1), defeat 6/0 7/5 in 1h24
- Gijon P2 – Semi-final vs. Brea / Triay (n°2), defeat 6/1 6/3 in 1h37
- Cancun P2 – Final after eliminating the number 1 in the semi-final (6/2 4/6 6/4), defeat in the final vs. Brea / Triay (6/3 6/1) in 1h17
- Miami P1 – Semi-final vs. Brea / Triay (n°2), defeat 6/2 6/1 in 1h26
Three clear defeats against Brea / Triay , still in two sets, without any real opposition. Miami , Sofia Araujo even showed signs of annoyance and defeatist body language... Araujo, mentally affected, confided to her coach Seba Nerone during the Miami P1 semi-final: "I can't be positive."
Santiago P1: a turning point?
They will potentially find Brea / Triay en semi final this week at Santiago P1. Will they reverse the trend or suffer a fourth consecutive defeat against the world number 2 pair ?
Potential route to Santiago P1 :
- 1/8 final : Guinart (23rd) / Iglesias (30th)
- 1 / 4 de finale : Alonso De Villa (15th) / Ustero (9th), seeded 6
- Semi final : Brea / Triay (n°2)
- Final : Josemaría / Sánchez (n°1) or González / Fernández (n°3)
Will Santiago be the tournament of inspiration or of frustration?
A big sports enthusiast and former tennis player, I discovered padel a few years ago without really focusing on it. Then I became addicted to this sport by practicing it and watching the premier padel matches. Looking forward to sharing the 2025 news with you!
