While Spain, France, and Italy have traditionally garnered attention when it comes to padel development, another country is making rapid progress: the United Kingdom. According to the Global Padel According to Playtomic and Strategy&'s 2026 report, the UK market currently boasts some of the most impressive growth indicators in the world. Demand is increasing so rapidly that supply is struggling to keep up, to the point that many players are finding it difficult to book a court during peak hours.

The United Kingdom is part of the category of markets called "Hotspots", that is to say countries where the growth of padel is still in a phase of rapid acceleration, driven by strong demand and massive investments in infrastructure.

 Demand far exceeds supply

The main lesson of the report is undoubtedly the gap that exists today between the number of players and the number of available pitches.

In major British clubs, the occupancy rate reaches approximately  85% during peak hours , a particularly high level internationally. Even more revealing, nearly one in two players report having difficulty finding an available time slot when they want to book a court.

Unlike some markets where infrastructure was developed before demand was actually established, the UK is in the opposite situation: the players are already there, but the land is still lacking.

 Why padel is so popular with the British

The success of padel in the United Kingdom is based on several factors.

The first is its social dimension. The report highlights that padel attracts a very wide audience thanks to its simple rules and accessibility. Unlike other, more technical racket sports, beginners can quickly enjoy themselves on the court.

The second factor is its ability to bring together several generations. British clubs see a diverse membership, ranging from young working people to older players, which encourages regular participation and word-of-mouth.

Finally, the economic model of British clubs relies heavily on modern, often indoor, infrastructure, allowing year-round practice despite local climatic conditions.

 A race to open clubs

Faced with this growing demand, operators are accelerating investments.

Many specialist chains are opening more and more large-capacity centers, with several covered courts, dining areas, social zones and digital services facilitating reservations.

The report distinguishes three main categories of actors who are currently involved in this expansion:

  • channels entirely dedicated to padel;
  • multi-sport groups that add padel to their offering;
  • sports brands or leisure players who are gradually investing in this sector.

The objective is clear: to reduce the infrastructure deficit before demand continues to widen the gap.

Could the United Kingdom become the next major global power in padel?

 One of the strongest growth rates in Europe

Between 2021 and 2025, the number of padel courts in the United Kingdom increased by approximately  86% , which is one of the strongest growth rates observed on the European continent.

This dynamic puts the country ahead of already more mature markets such as France or the Netherlands in terms of speed of development.

However, experts believe that the UK is still far from reaching its full potential. The number of courts per capita remains lower than that observed in the major European padel nations.

 The future engine of world padel?

The United Kingdom today presents a configuration that is particularly sought after by investors: strong demand, high purchasing power, a clientele willing to pay for premium infrastructure and a market that is still far from saturation.

Where some countries now have to manage a phase of consolidation or correction, the United Kingdom continues to show very significant growth prospects.

For industry observers, the question is no longer whether padel will establish itself permanently in the UK, but how far it can go. If the current pace continues, the United Kingdom could quickly join the ranks of major global padel markets and become, in the coming years, one of the main drivers of European growth.
