The qualifications of the FIP Platinum Lyon continue this Tuesday at All In Country Club, with a day full of close duels for the French pairs. While most of them ended up losing, the performances were solid and full of promise.
Basso and Robert nearly pull off a feat against the number 4 seed
On the short 1, Tom Basso et Jeremy Robert delivered a huge fight facing the 4th seed Mariano Agustín González San Martín / Antonio Graupera, before bowing 7/6 2/6 6/4.
The two young Lyonnais thrilled the crowd with a great match. Robert, very aggressive often hurt in the exchanges, while Low showed great strength.
They came close to a major blow, only yielding after more than two hours of battle. Despite the defeat, the duo leaves with a lot of positive things to say, having pushed one of the best pairs of these qualifications into the tough.
Vincent and Bayard fall with weapons in hand
On the short 2, the Lyonnais Pierre-Vincent et Damien Bayard also fought a great battle, ultimately lost 6/4 4/6 6/4 facing the 6th seed Alejandro Calvo Pérez / Noé Sánchez Del Viejo.
Freshly won the P1500 from Tarbes, the two Frenchmen arrived with confidence, and they confirmed it with a solid level of play They came close to defeating the Spanish pair, losing 6/4 in the third set.
Courrin and Jover dominated by the 5th seed
On the short 4, Nathan Courrin et Louis Jover bowed 6 / 3 6 / 2 facing the 5th seed Adrián Ronco López / Luis Oliver Artigas.
The Spanish, regulars on the FIP circuit, naturally set the pace. The French showed some good runs but were unable to reverse the trend against a more consistent team.
Final qualifying matches: a Franco-French clash in sight
The day will end with a big duel almost 100% tricolor across Adrien Maigret / Olivier Guy de Chamisso et Arthur Hugounenq / Juan José Domínguez, for a place in the main draw.
Women's side: Messina and Pellegrinelli expected
In the women's category, the wildcard Chiara Messina / Elsa Pellegrinelli face Stéffi Merah / Marie-Amélie Dardaine (TS3), for a place in the women's main draw.
So we will have at least one qualified French pair for the big picture.
Harold Bernard continues on his way
Finally, note the qualification of Harold Bernard, associated with the Mexican Suarez Gonzalez, after the withdrawal of the second seed Nuñez / Cuello.
The French-Mexican duo will face off in the final round Adrian Ronco / Luis Oliver Artigas, fallers of Courrin / Jover, to try to grab a place in the main draw.
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
