The first men's semi-final of the Premier Padel Gijon P2 offered a truly spectacular show. Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto , seeded 2, had to dig deep to overcome Jon Sanz and Coki Nieto , seeded 6th, after a huge battle: 4/6 6/3 6/4 .
A victory that sends the Spanish-Argentine pair to final but it turned out to be much more complicated than expected.
Sanz and Nieto start on cloud nine
The start of the match is one-sided. Sanz and Nieto are playing at an exceptional level , with impressive intensity.
Jon sanz is particularly on fire in this first set. Very aggressive, he's doing a lot of damage with his smashes and imposing a relentless pace on Galán and Chingotto. At the net, his presence constantly puts pressure on their opponents.
By his side, Coki Nieto remains true to himself : ultra consistent, very clean in the game, he gives almost no options.
Overwhelmed by the intensity of the Spanish pair, Galán and Chingotto cannot find a solution Sanz and Nieto quickly took the break and maintained their advantage to win the first set. 6/4 .
The turning point of the match at 2-0 in the second set
The momentum seems to be continuing at the start of the second set. Sanz and Nieto break away immediately and lead 2/0 , with even two double break points which could have practically sealed the match.
But they fail to convert them. A turning point in the game.
This missed opportunity restores confidence to Galan and Chingotto who are gradually raising their level of play. The physical intensity drops slightly for Sanz/Nieto after a very demanding start to the match.
Facing such an experienced pair, The slightest opening is immediately paid for Galán and Chingotto broke back, then won a series of games to finally prevail. 6/3 in the second round.
A third set under tension
Mentally affected by this turnaround, Sanz and Nieto struggle at the start of the third set Galán and Chingotto quickly gain the upper hand and lead 5/1 , seemingly heading towards a quiet end to the match.
