The first men's semi-final of the  Premier Padel Gijon P2  offered a truly spectacular show.  Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto , seeded 2, had to dig deep to overcome  Jon Sanz and Coki Nieto , seeded 6th, after a huge battle:  4/6 6/3 6/4 .

A victory that sends the Spanish-Argentine pair to  final but it turned out to be much more complicated than expected.

Sanz and Nieto start on cloud nine

The start of the match is one-sided.  Sanz and Nieto are playing at an exceptional level , with impressive intensity.

Jon sanz  is particularly on fire in this first set. Very aggressive, he's doing a lot of damage with his smashes and imposing a relentless pace on Galán and Chingotto. At the net, his presence constantly puts pressure on their opponents.

By his side,  Coki Nieto remains true to himself  : ultra consistent, very clean in the game, he gives almost no options.

Overwhelmed by the intensity of the Spanish pair,  Galán and Chingotto cannot find a solution Sanz and Nieto quickly took the break and maintained their advantage to win the first set.  6/4 .

The turning point of the match at 2-0 in the second set

The momentum seems to be continuing at the start of the second set.  Sanz and Nieto break away immediately  and lead  2/0 , with even  two double break points  which could have practically sealed the match.

But they fail to convert them. A turning point in the game.

This missed opportunity restores confidence to  Galan and Chingotto who are gradually raising their level of play. The physical intensity drops slightly for Sanz/Nieto after a very demanding start to the match.

Facing such an experienced pair,  The slightest opening is immediately paid for Galán and Chingotto broke back, then won a series of games to finally prevail.  6/3  in the second round.

 A third set under tension

Mentally affected by this turnaround,  Sanz and Nieto struggle at the start of the third set Galán and Chingotto quickly gain the upper hand and lead  5/1 , seemingly heading towards a quiet end to the match.

But the Spanish are not giving up. With a  surge of pride They manage to break the deadlock and reignite the suspense.

Despite the pressure,  Galán and Chingotto remain solid  to maintain their advantage and finally conclude  6/4 .

 A very close match statistically.

The match was extremely balanced.

Reunited this season after their previous partnership, the two Spaniards are showing that they can  compete with the best pairs on the circuit they who had notably won the  Barcelona Finals 2024 .

Benjamin Dupouy

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
