Léa Godallier and Giorgia Marchetti made a brilliant start to the FIP Finals in Bourg-en-Bresse, winning 6-2, 6-2 in just 55 minutes. Mario Cordero gathered their impressions and talked about their journey, as well as their prospects for the tournament and the future.

Mario Cordero: How did you both feel on this track?

Giorgia Marchetti: I am very happy with today's match. It is always complicated to start a tournament. The first round is always a little more difficult because we do not know the conditions of the track yet, and we have to adapt to them while we play. We started well and we continue to improve in our game. I am very happy, and now we are preparing the match for tomorrow.

Mario Cordero: Léa, how did you find the French women you know very well in front of you?

Lea Godallier: They played their game. As you said, I think they played very well. They were pretty solid, and I think it comes down to details. Obviously, the top level comes down to details. There were maybe moments when they were a little out of position. So, we took advantage of that to get ahead. But they played their aggressive game to the fullest. I think they were often at the net. Even when we were at the net, they managed to take the net back. They were faithful to their game from A to Z. They played very well, and I congratulate them.

Mario Cordero: Giorgia, we saw that you often touched the player in front of you, Marie-Amélie. Were you surprised by her positioning? She was very close to the net when you hit a vibora or a smash.

Giorgia Marchetti: Yes, I touched her. And no, I didn't mean to do it, clearly. These are accidents that can happen in racing. This girl is very fast. I didn't know her before. She moves a lot close to the net, and that's why it happened like that.

Mario Cordero: She tells us that her opponent is very fast and often very close to the net, which led to some unexpected contacts. Even you, Léa, didn't have time to tell her.

Lea Godallier: Yes, she played her shot normally, but Marie-Amélie was really very close.

Mario Cordero: You have been playing together for several tournaments now. When did you both start?

Giorgia Marchetti: In Rome. And since then, everything has been going very well. The truth is that we got along very well from the first second. I feel very happy to have met Léa.

Mario Cordero: She tells us that things are going very well with Léa and that she feels lucky to have her as a partner. Léa, what can you tell us about Giorgia?

Lea Godallier: She's a great partner. We didn't think we'd have such good results from the start. In Rome, I think we reached the last 16 by beating a seeded player straight away. For me, back from pregnancy, finding a partner who accepts that I come to tournaments with my child, that changes the organization a bit. It's not as fluid as a normal team. Finding someone who accepts all that and who likes that atmosphere is incredible. Giorgia told me she wanted to finish the year together, all together from A to Z. Honestly, to come back on the circuit after pregnancy, I couldn't have dreamed of anything better.

Mario Cordero: Is she a good aunt for your son?

Lea Godallier: Yes, he has a lot of aunts, but Giorgia is the best aunt!

Mario Cordero: You must have looked at the table. The next round will be against the number 8 seed. Do you know them well?

Lea Godallier: Yes, we met Marina Lobo in Egypt a month and a half ago, and Teresa, I know her very well, I played with her for a whole year. It's a very good match that awaits us. A great battle, I hope. We're going to prepare. We have a little time, and we're going to give it our all.

Mario Cordero: She tells us that next year will be very important for both of you. You have increased your level a lot this year. Do you have great hopes for the future?

Lea Godallier: Yes, I think if we do things right and train seriously, we can continue to improve. Next year will be crucial for us.

Mario Cordero: Congratulations on your qualification! We hope to see you further up the table. Rest well and see you tomorrow!
