The padel boom on Google in figures between 2020 and 2024

A big PIC in 2024 and it's not over yet

The general trend that emerges from the data shows a gradual increase in interest in the word “padel” in France on Google over time. Although the first values around 2019 show a relatively low interest (around 14) and which is also explained by the very complicated period experienced worldwide with Covid, there is a steady and significant increase. The maximum peak of 100 in 2024 indicates a strong craze for this sport, linked to major events and especially to a growing popularity of padel in France.

Padel has its seasons!

The general trend suggests a steadily growing popularity, with seasonal fluctuations, but an overall positive direction towards much higher interest in the recent period.

The analysis by season shows the following averages of interest in padel on Google:

  • Summer : 44,35 (highest)
  • Spring : 34,74
  • Autumn : 32,02
  • Winter : 30,86 (lowest)

Interest in padel is therefore particularly strong in summer, which can be explained by an increase in outdoor sports practice and events during this period. Winter, on the other hand, seems to be the season when interest is lowest, probably due to less favorable climatic conditions for the practice.

One might think that the lack of interest is explained by the usual break in the professional sports season between December and March. However, this argument does not hold water. Indeed, in France, interest in the professional circuit does not yet seem significant according to Google data. In addition, the most marked interest is in the summer, a period that also corresponds to a break for professionals due to the summer holidays.

A record year 2022 in terms of progress

The evolution of interest in padel on Google by year shows a significant progression:

  • 2021 : Increase of 82,8%
  • 2022 : Increase of 92,6%
  • 2023 : Increase of 56,6%
  • 2024 : 35,0% increase (until September 7, 2024)

This demonstrates strong growth, especially between 2021 and 2022, where interest in padel almost doubled.
