Roland Garros 2020 offered us an unprecedented almost unexpected final in the ladies with the American Sofia Kenin, the fourth seed against the Polish and 4th player in the world Iga Swiatek.

American Sophia Kenin returns to the field to win her 2nd grand chelem of the year after the Australian Open and do better than in 2016 against the same Polish after this defeat at their junior Roland Garros.

The Polish starts this final with no set lost during the fortnight. This is to say the quality of play offered by the young player.

A perfect start

Like the French Marie Pierce, the Polish was 19 when she played this almost unexpected final at Roland Garros. But the comparison stops there. Unlike our French, Iga swiatek plays his best tennis from the first points alternating strong strokes and cushioning.

The Polish started the final in an incredible way, taking the American by the throat from the first points. No waste and she already shows the full extent of her game. She quickly leads 3 0 games with a break.

Suddenly, and for no real reason, the Pole gets distracted by offering the break with a double fault on a plateau. The American did not ask for much to return to this first set to 3 everywhere.

More Sofia kenin commits mistakes and owes his salvation in this first set only by a slight deconcentration of the polonaise. The American must again give up her faceoff to be led 5/3.

Alors than Iga Swiatek  has the first set in the racket, Sofia Kenin comes back to the mind by breaking again

On the field, the Polish seems to have all the weapons to win the game, but the American manages to stay in contact thanks to her self-sacrifice, but it will not be enough in this first set. 6/4 for swiatek .

The polonaise as a great champion

The second set doesn't start that way at all. It is the American who breaks from the first game. But the Polish draws the score again the next game by breaking Kenin.

Sophia Kenin lets go of her racquet in spite following this exceptional long line backhand from Swiatek. We see her on the verge of tears on the ground. Unexpected because the match remains tight. The Polish woman takes the opportunity to knock out Kenin with blows of which she has the secret: very powerful blows.

Kenin a little less well maybe because of his strapped left leg. She asks for a medical stop to be taken care of by the physiotherapist.

On her return, the American faced a hurricane. The Polish won her final in 2 sets 6/4 6/1.

The only difficulty for the Polish woman on the ocher soil of Paris: to join her trainer in the stands.

Well done to the Polish. A shooting star or a star that will shine for a very long time? the future will tell.
