Juan Lebrón and Leo Augsburger arrive at the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel with high ambitions. Winners of the Brussels P2 this season, the two players believe they have what it takes to compete with the best pairs in the world and are clearly aiming for the trophy at the Foro Italico.
The only team to have managed this year to slot in between the two dominant duos on the circuit, Arturo Coello / Agustín Tapia et Ale Galán / Fede Chingotto The Spanish-Argentine pair intends to continue their progress at one of the most prestigious events of the season.
"We want to win the tournament"
Juan Lebrón did not try to hide his ambitions before the start of the Italian competition.
"We want to win the tournament. The first match will already be difficult, but we're coming here with that goal."
The Spaniard, however, refuses to reduce the tournament to a confrontation between the two best pairs in the world rankings.
“Tapia and Coello, like Galán and Chingotto, are very difficult to beat. But it’s not easy for them either when they play against us. When we step onto the pitch, we only think about winning.”
Specific preparation for Roman conditions
Aware of the demands of the Roman tournament, Leo Augsburger explains that the preparation has been adapted to the conditions expected at the Foro Italico.
"We've worked hard these last two weeks. We've been training in the sun to get used to the heat we'll encounter here."
The young Argentinian also prefers to focus his attention on his own team rather than on the tournament favorites.
"People often talk to us about the other pairs, but we're focused on ourselves. There are a lot of dangerous teams in this draw."
Lebrón sees a future world number 1 in Augsburger
Since they joined forces, the bond between the two players has continued to grow. Juan Lebrón has been full of praise for his teammate.
"Leo is on an excellent trajectory. I am convinced he will become world number 1. He shouldn't feel any pressure and should simply enjoy what he's doing."
Drawing on his experience, the former world number 1 says he wants to support the Argentinian's progress.
"I try to help him. To me, he's like a brother. He's very mature and he surprises me every day."
"When Juan called me, I immediately believed in the project."
For its part, Augsburger is equally enthusiastic about this collaboration.
“We get along very well. When Juan called me, I immediately thought we could form a team capable of competing for all the titles.”
The Argentinian player nevertheless insists on the importance of daily work.
“We are not focused on results. Our primary goal is to progress, build a strong team, and improve our game. The results will then come naturally.”
Rome, a symbolic tournament for both players
A coronation at BNL Italy Major would not have the same meaning for both men.
For Juan Lebrón, this would be a return to the top in a tournament he won in 2022 alongside Ale Galán.
For Leo Augsburger, already a world champion with Argentina in 2024 and winner of the Madrid P1 2025 and the Brussels P2 2026 conquer a first Major Premier Padel would constitute a new step in his rise among the best players in the world.
