Giulia Dal Pozzo continues his dream week at BNL Italy Major Premier Padel After becoming the first Italian to reach the quarterfinals of a Major, the 20-year-old took another step forward by qualifying for the semifinals of the Rome tournament alongside the Spaniard Nuria Rodriguez .
On the Pietrangeli court at the Foro Italico, the Italian-Spanish pair delivered another benchmark performance by eliminating Claudia fernandez et Sofia Araujo , respectively 6th and 8th ranked players in the world, with a score of 3/6 6/3 6/2 .
A comeback that changes everything
For more than a set, the scenario seemed to favor Fernandez and Araujo. More solid in the crucial moments and better settled into the match, the two players controlled the proceedings and were still leading. 6 / 3 3 / 1 .
But the exchanges remained hard-fought and the difference between the two teams seemed less significant than the score suggested.
From that moment on, the game completely turned around. Dal Pozzo and Rodriguez gradually took control of the exchanges, multiplying quality defenses and considerably reducing their number of unforced errors.
On the other side, Fernandez and Araujo lost their rhythm and confidence as the games went on.
Total domination in the last two sets
The momentum became irresistible for the young Italian and her partner. Between the end of the second set and the beginning of the third, they strung together an impressive series of consecutive games, quickly taking a decisive lead.
Highly mobile, aggressive in key moments and capable of regularly finding offensive solutions, they gradually stifled their opponents.
The final point perfectly symbolizes their week: on another match point, Giulia Dal Pozzo concluded with a winning smash, one of his strongest shots since the start of the tournament.
A meteoric rise
This qualification marks a new turning point in the Italian's career. Relatively unknown to the general public just a few months ago, Dal Pozzo is now guaranteed a spectacular rise in the world rankings.
The Italian player is expected to join the Top 30 worldwide during the next FIP ranking update and is even approaching the status of number 1 in Italy, currently held by Carolina orsi .
A huge challenge against the world's number ones
To continue his incredible run, Dal Pozzo will meet again on Saturday... central court of the Foro Italico for a prestigious semi-final against the world number 1 Gemma Triay et Delfi Brea .
The reigning champions had to battle for nearly three hours to overcome Claudia jensen et Tamara Icardo in three rounds ( 3/6 6/4 6/3 ).
A grueling encounter that showed that the favorites could be put under pressure.
Having already knocked out several top seeds this week, Dal Pozzo and Rodriguez will now try to extend one of the best runs of the season on the circuit. Premier PadelJust days after making Italian padel history, they are now only one step away from a Major final.
