Javi Garrido He is reborn in Dubai. After a year of upheaval, impulsive changes, injuries and doubts, the Cordoba native is finally getting a breath of fresh air: Here he is back in the final four of a tournament Premier Padel, 386 days after its last semi-final, at Mar del Plata P1.
An anticipated comeback… but above all, a well-deserved one.
A chaotic season… until Campagnolo's return
Since his separation from Martín Di Nenno, then the shortened interlude with Tino Libaak After his injury, Garrido went through a period of total instability. He went from one short-term partnership to another: Diego Gil, Pablo Cardona, Sanyo Gutierrez, Juan Cruz Belluati, Tolito Aguirre… without ever managing to settle down or create a coherent project.
Falling rankings, fragile confidence, non-existent results: the downward spiral was worrying.
And then, everything changed with a familiar face: Lucas CampagnoloHis former partner, his friend, the one with whom he had already been in the final back in the WPT days… and who, today, has given him back his smile.
Campa, the long-awaited breakthrough
The duo is working together again, their automatic responses are returning, and so is their confidence. And it shows.
- solid victory in the round of 16 against Arce / Lijo
- a huge performance in the round of 8 against Nieto / Yanguas, seeded number 4,
- and a quarter-final won through sheer willpower against Momo González / Fran Guerrero.
It's quite simple: Garrido hadn't played that type of padel for a year..
A quarter-final where Garrido faced his old demons head-on.
Facing Momo González / Fran GuerreroThe Spanish-Brazilian pair found themselves in the midst of a fierce battle, both physical and mental. The first set (6-4) laid the groundwork: Garrido was there, fair, powerful, involved.
But Momo and Guerrero reacted, pushing all the way to tie-breaker, the second set.
The third set was a real battle. And that's where Campagnolo played an immense role: solid, precise, reassuring, he maintained their partnership in important moments.
The final 6-4 goal liberated Garrido. A celebration that speaks volumes. It wasn't just a victory, it was a liberation..
A semi-final against the kings: “everything to gain, nothing to lose”
For the first time in over a year, Garrido will play in a semi-final. Premier PadelAnd what a challenge! Tapia / CoelloThe world's number 1 players have been in steamroller mode since the start of the tournament.
The Golden Boys are overwhelming favorites. They dispatched Leal/Bergamini 6-1, 6-2 without breaking a sweat. They arrive fresh, confident, and well-organized.
But there : Garrido/Campagnolo are under no pressureAnd that's dangerous.
Anything can happen in a match.
What if the final P1 of the season delivers the ultimate surprise?
One thing is sure: Garrido has returnedNot just in the semi-finals.
He came to his senses.
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
