The women's table opened in the second rotation this morning with the 16e finals. One of the pairs to watch was of course that of Carla Touly and Jessica Ginier. Seeded 2 in this final phase of the French championships, expected in the final on Sunday against Léa Godallier and Alix Collombon, Ginier/Touly was opposed for its start to the two young Franciliennes Cyrine Hamrouni (57e in the French ranking) and Clara Mansart (37e).
Ginier/Touly solid for their entry
Balanced, the very beginning of the match would not take long to give a first trend: Ginier/Touly broke at 1 all and took the lead in the score (6/1) thanks to a double break. Solid, Jess and Carla perfectly maneuvered their opponents, who did not demerit themselves and focused on taking the net as soon as possible. Clara Mansart appeared comfortable there but the pair from Île-de-France conceded a new break at 2/1 in the second set and found themselves once again led 5/1. Despite a break, they lost 6/2. A good start therefore for Touly/Ginier, who could have envisaged a 1/8e final against Amélie Detrivière and Mélissa Martin.
A 1/8e overall mastered final
Started mid-afternoon, 1/8e The final of the seed 2 started on the same basis as their previous match. Strengthened by a break obtained in the first game of the match, the Ginier/Touly pair were in control and opportunely converted 3 of their 5 break points. Powerful, Jessica and Carla won 33 points out of 53 played: 6/1 in less than half an hour. Would the second set see this dynamic continue? Not quite. More disjointed, it first saw three consecutive breaks before Jessica Ginier and Carla Touly restabilized their game. They then worked their opponents, held their defense impeccably and showed themselves to be more mobile in the transition phases: 4 games to 1. It was at this precise moment that Martin/Detrivière sounded the rebellion: back to 4/2, they got themselves two break points. On these, Ginier/Touly varied the game well and stood out again: 5/2, then 6/2.
A relatively quiet day therefore for the number 2 seed, who will face tomorrow morning the winner of the match between, on one side, Louise Bahurel and Camille Sirieix, and, on the other side, Laurine Bergaud and Nada Madjoubi. To be continued on Padel MagTV, sure !
