After a 2025 season far below their standards, Tino Libaak et Alex Chozas have decided to start again together. Two world champions with Argentina in 2024, two trajectories hit hard last year, but above all a common goal: to make 2026 a truly pivotal year.
In the middle of pre-season training in Barcelona, at Aurial Indoor Padel SabadellThe two Argentinians opened up about their new project, their playing style, and their ambitions in an interview given to Sports world.
A project born from an obvious truth
The duo didn't come together by chance. Chozas explains it frankly:
"We both found ourselves without an ideal ranking option. But we know very well that we have the level to be among the best pairs in the world."
The two players have known each other for a long time, have already shared the court at the World Championships and a tournament in Finland, and had been in discussions for several months. This time, the timing was right.
"This is a long-term project. We're young, we have time, and we want to build something solid."
Tino Libaak finally at 100%
Absent for a large part of 2025 due to a serious back injuryLibaak claims to be fully recovered:
"I'm at 100%. We're fully focused on preparation, with a lot of enthusiasm and calm before the start of the tournaments.
A clear style: attack, but not at the expense of defense
Both players like to push forward, but want to avoid going to extremes. Libaak perfectly sums up their guiding principle:
"We want to spend a lot of time on offense, but also be solid on defense. That's what can make us a great pair."
A balance they work on daily under the direction of Pablo Crosetti, with supervised physical preparation.
Chozas is regaining its natural side
After a season spent mostly on the right, Álex Chozas clearly feels better… on the left:
"Today, I feel like a left-sided player. Tino can do the aggressive work I used to do on the right, and that frees me up a lot in my game."
An obvious complementarity that could accelerate their adaptation to the circuit.
The World Cup is the goal, but without obsession.
Both reigning world champions, the Argentinians know the competition is fierce. But there's no question of looking too far ahead:
"There are many Argentinian players at the very highest level. We prefer to focus on our daily work. If the World Cup comes around, all the better." (Libaak)
The stated objective: the Masters
Without mincing words, Chozas sets a clear ambition:
"It doesn't matter if we start as the 16th or 17th pair. In the long run, we'll be up there. The goal is to qualify for the Masters."
A duo to watch from Marseille
The duo Libaak – Chozas will officially begin its project on FIP Platinum MarseilleThe first major international test of the season. Without immediate pressure, but with a real desire to establish themselves permanently.
Two young talents, a shared history, a desire for revenge: the project is launchedAnd he might well make headlines sooner than expected.
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
