Lucía Sainz leaves IPPA presidency, Gemma Triay takes over

An important chapter in women's padel is coming to a close. International Association of Women's Players Padel (IPPA) officially announced on May 20th the resignation of Lucia Sainz from her position as president.

The former world number 1 is leaving her position after several years at the head of the association, during a key period for the development and structuring of professional women's padel.

In its statement, the IPPA confirmed that it had accepted the resignation submitted by the Spanish player on May 19. The association praised “her years of dedication” and her work “to strengthen women’s padel.”

Gemma Triay, interim president

To ensure the continuity of the organization, it is Gemma Triay , current vice-president of the IPPA, who will now assume the interim presidency until the end of the season.

The association also announced that new elections will be held to completely renew the board of directors. In this new provisional structure, Lara Arruabarrena becomes vice-president.

A major figure in women's padel

During her tenure, Lucía Sainz was one of the most important voices on the women's circuit, particularly in defending the interests of players during the many structural changes in professional padel.

Her role has been central to the institutional development of the IPPA and to the desire to give more weight to the players in decisions related to the future of the circuit.

Still active on the professional circuit, the Catalan will now be able to fully refocus on her sporting career.
