The last ticket for the semi-finals of  Madrid P1  is for  Gonza Alfonso / Tino Libaak After more than two hours of fighting, the Argentinian pair finally overcame  Flavio Abbate / Alonso Rodriguez ,  4/6 7/6 6/4 and continues his journey in a men's tournament completely disrupted by surprises.

Another huge fight in Madrid

It was a struggle right to the end. Faced with one of the week's major revelations,  Alfonso / Libaak  start badly and abandon the first round  6/4 .

Abbate and Rodríguez, who have already had a superb run to reach the quarter-finals, continue to play without any hang-ups and are getting even closer to a totally unexpected semi-final.

But the Argentinians hung on. They snatched the second set from  tie-breaker before finally making the difference in the decisive set,  6/4 .

Victoire  4/6 7/6 6/4 , at the end of another battle lasting more than two hours.

Alfonso and Libaak reach the semi-finals

This qualification has a special significance for both Argentinians.

Gonza Alfonso  had already reached this stage of the competition this season, at  Cancun P2 , alongside Sanyo Gutiérrez. For  Tino Libaak we need to go back to  Santiago Premier Padel P1 2025 , when he was still playing with Juan Tello, to regain his previous appearance in the final four.

Above all, this semi-final adds weight to their partnership. Their choice to play together was a gamble in terms of their ranking, but their week in Madrid confirms that they have the level to challenge much more established pairs.

They had already made a very strong statement in the round of 16 by eliminating  Juan Lebrón / Leo Augsburger (TS3) ,  7 / 6 7 / 5 This time, they were able to confirm their form against a lower-ranked pair, but one brimming with confidence.

Yanguas vs. Nieto: A huge test in the semi-final

The reward will be a particularly interesting semi-final against  Mike Yanguas / Coki Nieto .

A promising match between a pair much more established in the hierarchy and  two Argentinians who are now playing with a great deal of confidence After Lebrón/Augsburger, Alfonso and Libaak will have another opportunity to show how far they can go in Madrid.

In a tournament marked by numerous surprises, their presence in the semi-finals perfectly reflects the week's trend. With the elimination of several favorites, including  Arturo Coello / Agustín Tapia The male picture has opened up considerably.

One thing is certain :  Alfonso/Libaak now have nothing left to lose After securing the last ticket to the semi-finals, they will try to extend their crazy week against Yanguas / Nieto and give themselves a first final together.

Benjamin Dupouy

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
