Pablo Ayma, captain of the French men's team, gave his analysis of the performances observed during the P2000 at Esprit Padel, particularly those of the young hopefuls of French padel. He looks back on the men's final, the progress of certain players and the future of the national team.
A men's final rich in lessons
Present at Mind Padel to follow the competition, Pablo Ayma particularly enjoyed the men's final. "I was looking forward to watching this match and analyzing the players' performance," he confided. Among them, Ben was making his return after a period without competition. "He played a magnificent match, with very few errors and above all an excellent level of play in key moments."
Interrogé sur Timéo and YoanAyma says he is satisfied with their progress: "I have been following them for several years, and it is a pleasure to see them play here. They are still young, but they have started the transition to a more professional level. It is the right direction to follow."
The keys to the match and the points to improve
In his analysis, Pablo Ayma highlights the essential role of Maxime, often in the shadows but extremely effective. "He was impressively consistent and knew how to dominate the match times. His complementarity with Ben caused difficulties for Timéo and Johan."
According to him, the losing pair suffered from several factors: "They made a few errors at the baseline, particularly on returns and center balls. Yoan sometimes tried to control too much with his backhand. As for Timéo, he had few opportunities to close out points and wasn't always decisive on some smashes."
Ayma also highlights the specific playing conditions: "The fast pitch makes defense and counter-attacks difficult. It was a difficult match to manage nervously."
Maxime Forcin in the French team?
When asked about Maxime and a possible selection in the French team, Pablo Ayma remains attentive: "Maxime is always in our discussions. He is a key player, who forces his opponents to play well to beat him. Today, he showed a little more aggression, which is essential to reach the highest level as a backhand player."
While joining the French team is a possibility, Ayma emphasizes the importance of international experience: "For him, the most important thing is to establish himself on the circuit and acquire real competitive experience on a global scale."
A selection course planned before the summer
The next selection course for the French men's team is in preparation. "We already have dates in mind, probably in May or early June, but they are not yet official. During this training, we generally gather 12 players, and alone 8 of them will be retained for the next deadlines. This is a key event in building the team."
Young French hopefuls under surveillance
Pablo Ayma is delighted to see the emergence of new talents in French padel: “I saw a Tom Basso very fit, as well as Jeremy Robert, who played a very good match alongside his left-handed partner, Olivier Guy de Chamisso, who is playing very well. There are a lot of young players progressing in France, and they will be closely monitored for future selections.
