Present at  Riyadh Premier Padel P1 Paquito Navarro spoke to the microphone of Padel Review Regarding the new measures implemented this season to speed up the game:  shot clock , control of time between points, change of ends, end of sets, change of ends in tie-breaks and introduction of the  Star Point .

A shot clock that provides control

For the Spaniard, the arrival of the new time markers with countdown timers is a logical evolution:
"I think the markers are good because they allow for a little more control over the times."

With a display visible to players, the referee, and the public, respect for  20 seconds between points ,  90 seconds for changeovers  or alternatively  120 seconds between sets  becomes stricter.
A further step towards professionalization and a smoother pace of play.

Star Point, a good idea… but incomplete

Paquito views the new scoring system favorably, but believes it could go further:
"Star Point seems like a good initiative to me, but I think it's still a bit of a halfway point."

The current principle, a maximum of two advantages followed by a decisive point at the third tie, speeds up some ends of games, but does not totally transform the dynamics of matches.

 Towards the golden point?

Navarro goes even further by proposing a radical evolution:
"I would have immediately given it a gold star... even though at first I wasn't very keen on it."

According to him, the  golden point  would bring:

  • over  show ,
  • over  tension in key moments ,
  • un  real time saving  over the duration of the matches.

Changes that are controversial but are moving forward.

Between  shot clock ,  Star Point  and reflecting on the decisive point, the circuit continues to experiment to shorten matches without distorting the game.
And the opinion of Paquito Navarro, a major figure on the circuit, confirms that players are gradually adopting these new features…

Benjamin Dupouy

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
