This time, the adventure ends. After four consecutive victories since qualifying,  Thomas Leygue / Jesús Moya  were defeated in the round of 16 of the Paris Major against  Franco Stupaczuk / Jon Sanz , seeded 4.

Defeat  7 / 5 6 / 3 But once again, the Franco-Spanish pair showed that they more than deserved to be at this level. Facing one of the best pairs in the world, accustomed to semi-finals and finals on Premier PadelLeygue and Moya played without any inhibitions and stayed in contact for a long time.

A very solid start to the match

One could wonder how Leygue and Moya would react after the emotions of the previous day, the huge victory against Esbrí / Sanyo and the accumulation of physical fatigue.

But from the very first games, there was no sign of letting up.

Leygue is very clean, very solid and holds his diagonal perfectly against Jon Sanz Moya is also doing well in the match and the Franco-Spanish pair are playing with great precision.

À  3/3 They even get a break point. They don't convert it, but the message is clear: they are capable of competing.

The rest of the story remains very gripping. Sanz is becoming increasingly dangerous with his effects and his ability to accelerate, while Stupaczuk perfectly manages the important moments.

À  6/5 , Leygue / Moya finally crack at the worst moment and concede the break which gives the first set to the 4th seed.

A few details that make all the difference

In the second set, Stupaczuk / Sanz managed to take the lead earlier.

Leygue and Moya are still producing good padel, but you can feel that the details are starting to take their toll. Against a pair of this caliber, the slightest inaccuracy is immediately punished.

The accumulation of matches is also probably starting to take its toll. For Leygue/Moya, it was the  fifth match in five days  at Roland-Garros, while their opponents arrived much fresher.

In important moments, this physical difference and especially the experience of Stupaczuk / Sanz ultimately tip the scales.

The fourth seed concludes  7 / 5 6 / 3 .

A defeat that nonetheless confirms their level

The score should not obscure the quality of the performance.

Once again,  Leygue and Moya didn't seem to be overplaying their hand. . Admittedly, the adversity was even stronger than in previous rounds, with a pair established among the very best in the world, but they still showed that they could keep up the pace.

They played without inhibition, with personality, and proved that the exploits of the previous rounds were not a fluke.

Against Gala/Jensen, and especially against Esbrí/Sanyo, they had already shown they were capable of beating players ranked in the world's top 25. This round of 16 match against Stupaczuk/Sanz simply confirms that they are getting even closer to that level.

A highly successful Paris Major

Their week's results are remarkable.

Left from the qualifications,  Leygue / Moya beat Lamperti / Insa then  Aragón Herrera / Roglan Pons  to join the main table.

They then eliminated  David Gala / Enzo Jensen 7/6 6/4 , before achieving their greatest performance against  Juanlu Esbrí / Sanyo Gutiérrez 6/2 4/6 7/5  in a packed Philippe-Chatrier stadium.

This journey allowed them to reach the  round of 16 of the Paris Major , a first for Thomas Leygue.

And they don't just leave with memories.

195 FIP points and a huge jump in the rankings

With this path,  Leygue / Moya pocket 195 FIP points , a huge reward for two players who needed results and confidence.

These points will allow them to  make a big leap in the world rankings but above all to change the dynamic of their end of season.

Thomas Leygue, still recovering from his injury, has just shown that he is once again capable of maintaining a very high level of performance over several days. Jesús Moya, for his part, confirms that this partnership is still working very well.

They therefore leave Roland-Garros with a defeat, certainly, but above all with  a benchmark performance, a huge number of points, and even more confidence .

Benjamin Dupouy

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
