The selection process is underway. Less than two months from 2026 World Cup , which will take place from November 2nd to 7th at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha The Spanish players don't have much time left to convince.
The selectors Juanjo Gutiérrez in the men's category and Carolina Navarro in the women's category will unveil their lists September 24 , during a presentation at the Cupra City Garage in Madrid. The Paris Major This therefore appears as one of the last big opportunities to score points before the final decisions.
Six players already seem indispensable among the men
Although no list has yet been released, several names seem difficult to rule out in the men's selection.
Left, Ale Galán, Paquito Navarro and Coki Nieto appear as almost indispensable candidates. On the right, the same observation applies to Arturo Coello, Juan Lebrón and Mike Yanguas .
That would only leave two places available to complete a Spanish selection which will aim to reclaim the world title against Argentina in particular.
For these last few spots, the competition is expected to be fierce. On the left, Aimar Goñi, Javi Leal and Momo González are among the leading candidates. On the right, Jon Sanz and Fran Guerrero could compete for a place.
Performances at Roland-Garros can therefore still be important. A strong showing at the Paris Major at the right time could tip the scales.
Ortega or Salazar, the big choice for the ladies?
In the women's competition, the selection seems even clearer. Barring any surprises, seven players already have a head start.
On the left, we would find Gemma Triay, Bea González, Ari Sánchez and Martina Calvo , While Paula Josemaría, Claudia Fernández and Andrea Ustero appear as the main options on the right.
So that would leave only... one seat , with a particularly symbolic choice to be made between Marta Ortega and Alejandra Salazar .
For Salazar, the stakes are even higher since the Spaniard has announced that she would end his career at the end of the season At 40, a selection would offer him the opportunity to play in one last World Cup under the Spanish colors.
But facing her is Marta Ortega, a reliable player on the circuit and undoubtedly possessing strong sporting credentials. Carolina Navarro will therefore have to choose between two players who are perfectly familiar with major tournaments.
Paris Major as the last big audition
In this context, the Paris Major takes on an additional dimension for players still undecided. Roland-Garros is an ideal opportunity to showcase oneself against the best pairs in the world and send a final message to the selectors.
The lists will only be revealed on September 24 , but the choices should largely become clear at the end of the week in Paris.
Among men, the battle seems to primarily concern Goñi, Leal, Momo González, Sanz and Guerrero Among women, all eyes will be on the long-distance duel between Marta Ortega and Alejandra Salazar .
Once the eight names are chosen, Spain can turn its attention to Doha and its main objective: the world title , with another battle expected against Argentina.
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
