This weekend, the French circuit offered, as always, a double appointment P1500 with the Padel Campus Arena in men and Mind Padel Lyon In the women's competition. Two intense tournaments with several high-level matches and some memorable moments.
Perez Le Tiec / Guy de Chamisso bosses at Campus Arena
In men, the TS2 Pierre Perez Le Tiec / Olivier Guy de Chamisso prevails in the final against Wagner / Pillon (TS4) on the score of 6 / 4 6 / 2 .
A final controlled from start to finish. Perez Le Tiec constantly pushed Pillon back, while Guy de Chamisso imposed a high volume of shots at the net. Whenever an opportunity arose, it was converted.
The numbers sum up the match: more winning points, fewer fouls, and above all 3 break points converted out of 8 , against none opposite.
For Perez Le Tiec, this is an expected title after several final four appearances last season in P1500.
For Guy de Chamisso, it's a confirmation: first major title and an obvious rise in power since the start of the season.
Couturier/Dumoulin, the tournament coup
The highlight of the weekend remains the quarter-final where Couturier / Dumoulin bring down the TS1 Bayard / Vincent , undefeated in the last three P1500s.
Victory in three sets with a tense tie-break in the second and above all this Couturier's blind passing which made the whole club stand up.
They will grow Wagner / Pillon at the end in the semi-final in a huge match concluded 6/2 6/7 6/1 , after losing a tie-break 14-12 for Wagner / Pillon , despite several match points.
Denecheau / Majdoubi make a strong impact in Lyon
In the ladies' category, the TS2 Jennifer Denecheau / Nada Majdoubi wins the title against Maligo / Merah (TS1) on a clear score: 6 / 0 6 / 4 en 54 minutes .
A one-sided final in the first set, driven by Majdoubi's powerful smash and Denecheau's dominance at the net.
The second set was closer, but the break conceded early by the TS1 sealed the match.
It's the first P1500 of the season for Denecheau, already a three-time champion at this level last year, and a further confirmation of the strength of the pair with Majdoubi, already victorious together in P2000.
The semi-finals were generally respected.
The semi-finals respected the hierarchy:
Denecheau / Majdoubi have overcome Senjean / Lefevre (TS6) , While Maligo / Merah have checked Pothier / Vichier (TS3) .
A top-level weekend
There are lessons to be learned. The fall of Bayard / Vincent the tournament favorites, confirming the strong rise in power of Couturier / Dumoulin at the start of the season.
The formation of new associations, notably among the men with Guy de Chamisso and Perez Le Tiec, and among the women with the pair Denecheau / Majdoubi, always present during the big occasions.
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
