Premier Padel and the International Federation of Padel presented the main points of the planned changes for the 2027 season. Meeting at Rome. on the sidelines of Italy Major Representatives of players, promoters, broadcasters and professional padel governing bodies have approved several measures aimed at better protect players while continuing the growth of the circuit .
A ranking based on 21 results
This was one of the demands made by the players in recent months. Starting from 2027 The FIP ranking will no longer take into account the 22 best results of each player but the 21 best.
A symbolic reduction, but one that aims to slightly alleviate competitive charge players during the season.
“Reducing the number of tournaments counted will help us better manage our schedules, improve our recovery and protect our health,” explains Maxi Sánchez, the players’ representative.
More points on Premier Padel
The FIP also wants to enhance the value of tournaments Premier Padel face FIP Tour .
The first rounds of Major , P1 et P2 will award more points starting in 2027. The goal is to better reward the players who cross the first obstacles of the main circuit and to accentuate the gap with the FIP events.
The limited world top list on the FIP Tour
This is probably the most significant measure.
The world's best players will see their access to FIP tournaments severely restricted. Players from Male Top 24 and Women's Top 20 will no longer be able to participate in FIP Silver . In FIP Bronze the limit will be set at Male Top 50 and Women's Top 40.
About the FIP Gold , the players of Top 4 worldwide will be excluded while those classified between the 5th and 16th place will only be able to participate with a wildcard .
The goal is to facilitate access to points and final brackets for improving players.
End of certain double registration strategies
The FIP also closed a loophole in the regulations.
From now on, a player may only register for two FIP tournaments in the same week with the same partner. The points obtained in both competitions will then be added together and divided by two to determine the final ranking.
If this average is lower than the number of points obtained in the tournament Premier Padel contested the same week, the player will ultimately retain his score Premier Padel.
Harmonised qualifications
Another change: the men's qualifying brackets will be aligned with the women's brackets across all tournaments. Premier Padel.
This harmonization should make it possible to offer a more coherent structure while avoiding certain situations where players had to play several matches in the same day during the qualifiers.
Finding the balance between growth and well-being
These measures were presented at a meeting bringing together 20 representatives from 11 different groups in professional padel.
While some promoters would have preferred to see the calendar continue to expand in order to support the global development of padel, a consensus emerged around the need to better manage the workload of the players.
The reform still needs to be officially approved in its details, but the direction is now clear: better structure the professional padel ecosystem, protect the health of players and offer more opportunities to developing players on the FIP Tour.
