The second women's semi-final du Ooredoo Qatar Major 2024 opposes this Friday the world number 1, Ariana Sánchez and Paula Josemaría, at the young Spanish pair formed by Bea González and Claudia Fernández, current number 3 on the circuit.
A history largely favorable to the favorites
Le face to face (H2H) between these two pairs is clear: 3 wins to 0 for Sánchez and Josemaría, who won the previous duels at Riyadh, Miami and Santiago. With their status as best pair in the world, Ari and Paula defend their title in Qatar, won last year, and have already won a trophy this season at Riyadh Season P1.
They are also the most successful pair in Major tournaments on the circuit Premier Padel, with 4 crowns to their credit. And another impressive figure: they never lost against a pair ranked number 3 in a Major tournament.
An almost perfect journey in Doha
Sánchez and Josemaría have dominated the Qatari competition since its inception, having conceded onlya single set in two editions of the Qatar Women's Major. It was in the semi-finals this year, a sign of a slight thrill, but they remain the big favorites to their own succession.
Be careful though: a defeat this Friday, combined to a possible final victory of Gemma Triay and Delfina Brea, could reduce their lead in the FIP ranking of more than 1 points.
González / Fernández: youth and ambition
Facing them, Bea González (23 years) and Claudia Fernandez (19 years) embody the new generation of women's padel. Despite their lack of experience, they have already made history by becoming the youngest pair to reach a semi-final au Qatar Major.
If they have not yet won any title on Premier Padel as a duo, their best result remains a final in Riyadh, which they were unable to play to the end due to Bea's injury.
Please note: Bea González has never lifted a Major trophy yetas Claudia Fernández has already reached the heights in winning the Mexico Major 2024 in Acapulco, with Gemma Triay. But it was also alongside the latter that she had failed last year… against Ari and Paula in Doha.
