This is a great performance for Robin Petitdidier et Basil Baud, who created a surprise in the pools of the FFT Padel Tour Lyon by winning in front of Benjamin Dufour et Hugo Cazaban, yet favorites. A look back at this victory and their evolving journey.

A tight match until the super tie-break

After a first set mastered thanks to the tactical instructions of their coach Francois Autier, Robin and Basile were able to impose their game to win 6-1. But in the second set, Hugo Cazaban et Benjamin Dufour raised their level, inflicting a correction on their opponents. The match was then played at super tie-break, a phase that is still uncertain.

“We know that a great tie-break is always a bit of a lottery. You have to start well, and there, it quickly turned in our favor. We lead 9-3, they come back to 9-6, but we manage a big point to conclude at 10-6.” - Robin Petitdidier

A first P2000 at home

To Robin Petitdidier, this P2000 was a the first. An opportunity all the more special as it took place at their home, Mind Padel, under the supervision of their coach François Authier.

“I started padel in 2021 and since 2022, I have been trained by François. Since September, I have joined the training center full time, with an adapted program via the CNED.” - Basil Baud

This choice of sports studies allows Basile to devote as much time as possible to padel, a commitment that is starting to bear fruit.

A duo under construction despite mixed results

Since the beggining of the school year, Robin and Basile evolve together with ups and downs. Their start to the season was marked by mixed results, including defeats in super tie-break, as at P1500 from Lyon face Basso/Durand.

“We had doubts, but with the P1000 final in Andrézieux and this great performance in the P2000, it motivates us for the future.” - Basil Baud

The duo have proven their potential, but still need to gain in regularity to achieve its goals.

Goals and ambitions: to enter the top 100

Only at 17 years, Basil Baud already displays big ambitionsHe is aiming for rapid progression and hopes to rise to the french top 100 in the coming months. For its part, Robin Petitdidier, old 21 years, wish continue its progression while reconciling his studies with padel.

“I really enjoy playing with Basile. We'll see where our progress takes us, but the goal is to continue to perform.” - Robin Petitdidier

Any adjustments to be expected for French padel?

Asked about the evolution of padel, both players believe that certain modifications could be beneficial, particularly concerning the match format.

“Super tie-breaks, especially in the early rounds of P1000 or in P2000 pools, sometimes distort the results. A real third set would allow the best level to express itself.”
