À  42 years ,  Sanyo Gutiérrez  remains an absolute reference on the right side. The Argentinian player, former world number 1 in 2018, has spanned several generations of padel and has had to evolve his game to adapt to an ever faster and more physical circuit.

Asked by The little one Padel When asked which current player most resembles him, Sanyo didn't hesitate for long:  mike yanguas .

"The one who plays most like me is Yanguas."

For Sanyo, the Andalusian's profile has several similarities with his own.

"The player who plays most like me on the right is Mike Yanguas."

The Argentinian, however, makes an important distinction: according to him, Yanguas has not yet reached the level of impact he himself had in his best years.

"He hasn't yet reached the level I once did, being as decisive, but he has the qualities."

Sanyo even explains that he has already spoken to him directly about it.

A potential yet to be exploited

The former world number 1 believes that Yanguas possesses superior physical qualities in certain aspects.

"I distributed fewer balls than him, but he has a greater reach and he retrieves balls that I perhaps couldn't reach for."

But for Sanyo, the Spaniard still has significant room for improvement.

"He still has things to improve that can make him even better."

The message is clear: Yanguas already has a very complete range of skills, but could become even more decisive if he manages to better structure his game and exploit all his qualities.

Two converging visions of padel

The comparison is not insignificant.

Sanyo has long embodied a style of padel based on reading the game, variation, changes of pace and the ability to make his partner play in the best conditions.

Yanguas also displays this ability to build points, defend a lot of ground and vary the zones.

Perhaps the biggest difference remains physical:  Yanguas has a larger size and greater ground coverage , where Sanyo has long compensated with his reading and quality of hand.

Sanyo always refers to the right

Despite the evolution of modern padel, Sanyo therefore remains a reference for right-handed players.

And to see a player of his experience designate  mike yanguas  The fact that the one who most resembles him says a lot about the Spaniard's potential.

It is now up to him to take this final step to become as decisive as the Argentinian was at the peak of his career.

Benjamin Dupouy

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
