The title won by  Agustín Tapia / Arturo Coello  au  Paris Major  had a value far greater than a simple trophy. Behind this final against  Ale Galán / Fede Chingotto , it was also the  first place in the Race  which was being played.

With  2 000 points  promised to the winners of a Major, the gap could completely swing in favor of the number 2s.

But once again, Tapia/Coello struck at the best moment.

A final that could change the hierarchy

Before the final, the stakes were very clear.

In case of victory,  Galán/Chingotto would have overtaken Tapia/Coello in the Race  and would have taken the lead in the race for world number 1.

The scenario would then have been:

 Galán / Chingotto: 12,150 points
 Tapia / Coello: 11,820 points

A change of leader would inevitably have given a lot of confidence to the number 2s before the final part of the season.

But the final went the other way.

Tapia/Coello finally widen the gap

After their victory in Paris,  Tapia/Coello now have 12,620 points in the Race , against  11,350 for Galán / Chingotto .

This represents a difference of  1 270 points  between the two pairs.

This is not a deal-breaker for Galán / Chingotto, but it is certainly a tough blow.

Especially considering how the final unfolded.

A huge opportunity missed

Galán / Chingotto had the match in hand.

After losing the first set, they managed to completely reverse the momentum, winning the second set and taking control in the third.

They even found themselves at  5/3, serve to follow for the title .

At that moment, they were only a few points away from winning the Paris Major and, more importantly, taking the lead in the Race.

But Tapia/Coello once again found the resources to come back, break back and then win the decisive tie-break.

A defeat that is bound to be hard to swallow.

Nothing is decided yet

With about  1 points behind Galán / Chingotto are still fully in the running.

The season is far from over and several major tournaments will still allow for the distribution of many points.

But the opportunity in Paris was enormous.

Winning a Major, beating Tapia/Coello in the final and simultaneously taking the lead in the Race could have completely reignited the momentum at the end of the season.

Instead, it is once again the world number 1 who walk away with the title and consolidate their lead.

Tapia and Coello are still there when it counts.

Perhaps that's the whole difference between the two pairs right now.

Galán / Chingotto showed that they were more than capable of beating them and even came very close to doing so on Philippe-Chatrier.

But in the moments that matter most,  Tapia / Coello always find a solution .

They therefore retain their leading position in the Race with  12 620 points , against  11,350 for Galán / Chingotto .

The battle for the world number 1 ranking remains open, but after Paris,  Tapia and Coello have regained some breathing room at the best possible time. .

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
