Le  Paris Major  could well mark a turning point in the season  Thomas Leygue Having enjoyed an exceptional run to the round of 16 at Roland-Garros, the Frenchman reaps  195 FIP points  and makes a huge leap in the world rankings.

Classroom  146th in the world before the tournament Leygue now points to the  105th place , or a jump of  41 positions  in just one week. The top 100, which seemed quite far away a few days ago, is now only five places away.

195 points that change everything

To measure the importance of this performance, one only needs to look at Leygue's previous results.

His second-best win of the season so far was a  round of 32 at the London P1 who had reported to him  55 points .

In Paris, he pockets it  195 at once .

The difference obviously stems from his Major status, but also from his journey since the qualifiers. By progressing through several rounds before reaching the round of 16, the Frenchman was able to accumulate points and achieve an exceptional ranking.

A progression that would probably have taken several months to build with consistent results on the circuit.

A tremendous journey since the qualifiers

This rise in the rankings primarily rewards what is currently considered  the best tournament of his career .

Leygue and  Jesus Moya  started their week in qualifying.

They initially dominated  Miguel Lamperti / Ferran Insa 6/3 6/1 before fighting to get out  Manuel Aragón Herrera / Albert Roglan Pons 7/5 4/6 6/4  and join the main table.

And they didn't stop there.

In the first round, they caused an upset against  David Gala / Enzo Jensen , beaten  7 / 6 6 / 4 .

Then came one of the tournament's great moments against  Juanlu Esbrí / Sanyo Gutiérrez On the Philippe-Chatrier course, Leygue/Moya delivered another outstanding performance by winning  6/2 4/6 7/5 .

A victory that opened the doors to them  round of 16 of the Paris Major .

Their journey ultimately came to an end against  Franco Stupaczuk / Jon Sanz , winners  7 / 5 6 / 3 But after five matches in five days, Leygue had already largely had a successful week.

A return to the forefront after a difficult period

This performance comes at the perfect time for the Frenchman.

Leygue was returning from a  long injury  and had logically fallen down the rankings over the months. At the start of the season, the question was how long it would take him to regain his form and return to the  world top 100 .

The answer is starting to arrive.

At his best, Leygue had reached the  86th place in the world Seeing him fall back to around 150th place inevitably made the path to the top 100 much longer.

But in one week in Paris, he has erased a huge part of it.

The equivalent of a very large result elsewhere

The  195 points  Wins also help to understand the value of reaching the round of 16 in a Major by going through the qualifiers.

To achieve a similar total in another tournament, one would need to, for example:

 A quarter-final in P1: 180 points
 a semi-final in P2: 180 points
a FIP Platinum final: 180 points
A FIP Gold victory: 150 points

In other words, performances that are particularly difficult to achieve.

Leygue has therefore just completed in one week an operation that could completely change the rest of his season.

Moya also benefits from it

His partner  Jesus Moya  He also pulls off a great deal.

The Spaniard wins  26 seats  and now ascends to the  132th worldwide .

The two men had already explained their desire to build their project together. After their time in Paris, they will be able to leave with a great deal of confidence.

For Leygue, the objective is now clear:  find the world's top 100 .

He is now only five places behind. After a season marked by his return from injury, the Frenchman may have just found at Roland-Garros the result he needed to truly relaunch his progress.

Benjamin Dupouy

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
