With the evolution of the game and the acceleration of conditions, offensive impact has become central, and two names clearly stand out when discussing power and efficiency: Agustín Tapia et Leo Augsburg.
To go beyond sensations, Padel Intelligence delved into the figures. The study is based on 92 matches analyzed for Tapia et 60 for Augsburger, with nine precise indicators around the smash.
Figures
On the nine statistics studiedAugsburger dominates six, against three for TapiaThe observation is clear: the Posadas player uses the smash more as a direct and constant weapon.
Augsburger notably displays:
- 19,48 smashes per match, compared to 16,39 for Tapia
- 11,15 winners per match, compared to 9,10
- 58% of smashes win, compared to 56%
- 79 smashes x3 winners, compared to 75
- 61% of smashes attempted on received lobs compared to 40% for Tapia, proof of a very attack-oriented game
Tapia, for his part, remains formidable in the pure finalizationThis is where reading the statistics becomes even more interesting. Certainly Leo Augsburger smash more, tries more and wins more points with the smashBut this aggressiveness has a downside: it is also being countered moreThe figures confirm it: on smashes that lose the point, Augsburger is at 19%, against 17% for Agustín Tapia.
We find here two very clear visions of the gameAugsburger embraces a ubiquitous smash, with high risk-taking and a constant offensive volume. Tapia, on the other hand, chooses his moments betterHe smashes less but with formidable efficiency. Fewer attempts, but a finer management of timing and the context of the point.
Two styles, two interpretations of modern padel: the ongoing attack on the one hand, surgical precision On the other hand. And in the end, two smashes that make you dream… each in their own way.
Two styles, one weapon
Finally, The duel between Tapia and Augsburger is much more balanced than it appears.. Certainly, Tapia proves slightly more effective in risk management, with 17% of smashes backfire on him, against 19% for Augsburger. A difference that illustrates the world number 1's superior shot selection.
But conversely, Augsburger compensates with its offensive impactOver the course of a match, it produces approximately 11,15 winners per match thanks to his smash, against 9,10 for Tapia. Finally, Augsburger's 2% higher percentage of blocked smashes is almost entirely offset by his 2% higher percentage of winning smashes compared to Tapia.which confirms an almost perfect balance between the two players.
Efficiency and control for Tapia, power and risk-taking for Augsburger Two different approaches, but statistically almost identical results, which explains why both are now considered among the absolute benchmarks for smashing on the circuit. But if Augsburger can find more efficiency in his smashes, he could clearly become the best smasher in the world, without a doubt.
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
