A Frenchwoman at FIP Promotion Villacarrillo Jaen
Registrations for the FIP Promotion Villacarrillo Jaen closed yesterday, and the main draw is out. Laura Buteau (FRA – 347) will be associated with Morena Nicole Suarez (ARG – 496). Their pair is ranked 17th out of 30 in the tournament.
Buteau changes partner compared to the start of the year, where she played with Lucía Rosa, who is taking a break from competitive padel for personal reasons.
Buteau joins forces with an Argentinian nugget
Morena Suarez, 17, is a former world number 3 in the minors, back when Claudia Fernandez (currently paired with Gemma Triay) was number 1. Morena Suarez was a South American champion with Argentina and reached number 30 among adults in Argentina.
Having arrived in Europe a little less than a year ago to train in the same academy as Paula Josemaria Martin, Morena Suarez is starting to focus on the main circuit tournaments after having made her mark on the Promises circuit. She is a very solid right-handed player who follows the pure tradition of Argentine padel. She was looking for an experienced left-handed player, and her complementarity with Laura Buteau is obvious. They get along very well on and off the court.
They have already played together at FIP Valencia Promotion, where they managed to get through a round against a higher ranked pair. The new pair plans to compete in several tournaments this summer. Their goal is to compete against higher ranked pairs to progress and grow together, while continuing to beat lower ranked duos.
Only three pairs are made without Spaniards
Besides the Buteau/Suarez pair, there aren't many pairs without Spaniards in the tournament. Among them, Ferreyra (158) / Valenzuela (131), who are Argentinian, and Pihl (DNK – 303) / Org (EST – 567).
Among the men, no Frenchman is to be reported for this tournament. Qualifications will begin on August 7 and the main draw the next day, August 8.
