Simon Boissé, the European champion of padel 2015 and current coach at Sport-in-Park in Laval discusses the differences between serving tennis and serving padel.

Tennis and padel, same fight ?

Service at padel perfectly represents this sport. It is simple and does not allow a priori to make winning shots or aces unlike tennis. But it's a blow that can still hurt opponents.

Done with a spoon and hit at maximum hip height, the service padel remains decisive to start a point.

A well-cut service is a "boring" service

From a technical point of view, it is recommended to give it a cut effect giving a plunging ball. The turner is thus obliged to take a fairly low ball. Not easy to return and especially to "return well" to avoid the lightning of the volleyball player opposite.

Hit hard like tennis?

From a tactical point of view, serving hard is not a guarantee of success, while tennis is sometimes synonymous with a winning point or ace. Indeed, the more you type hard, the more the turner can use this force to counter you.

Climb on the fly

Le padel is a sport where you will have to force yourself to go on the fly behind your serve if you want to improve your game. There is no such thing as a background player profile or a volleyball player as in tennis. At padel, you have to go on the fly if you want to evolve your game.

To avoid going up and taking a passing, it is recommended to vary the zones (windows, player, median) with cut balls.

It is therefore important to focus on the quality of his climb and the realization of his first flight rather than being a spectator of a possible winning service.
