Return on the interview of Adrien Maigret, and 2nd in the ranking of the FFT and vice-champion of France of padel, in the Face-to-Face Live on Instagram.

  • Regarding its containment / deconfinement:

During the confinement, I followed a very hard preparation by taking the character of Donkey Kong and I trained with him on the console because my physique resembles him.

More seriously, I took care of the Maigrouse Poker Tour. It started with a call with Jean Thomas Peyrou and Simon Boissé: one evening we decided to play poker on Winamax, but we couldn't play 3. We had the idea of creating a nice thing. I like to comment, make live, so I launched the Maigrouse Poker Tour, inviting everyone to come and participate. It worked really well, with 277 registered for the biggest stage. I didn't expect it to work that well at all.

In July and August, we will stop a bit, because we had a lot of stages during the confinement. Certainly at the start of the school year, we will resume with a lighter pace so that people can follow.

  • Regarding his arrival in the padel :

I am a grassroots tennis player and sports director of a tennis club. I discovered the padel 4-5 years ago by chance, with Sébastien Ruiz, our common guru. He invited me to a party. Like everyone else, I was lost on the pitch, no understanding of how to play, to understand the windows. I didn't win a lot of games at the start and for me it was not possible to stay only on defeats. I like a lot of challenges so I threw myself in, I played more and more and it became a real passion.

It wasn't just the activity itself that I liked, but it was also the atmosphere that was great. In my beginnings at padel, I was still -4/6, and there was no such atmosphere in tennis.

I really think I have evolved, I listened to the advice that I was given, I learned to speak with my partner, with my teammates from the France team.

  • Regarding its different partners:

I teamed up with my brother, Julien Maigret, for a while. When I decided to play with Benjamin Tison, it was absolutely not a question of level. I made this decision because our profiles matched better. Julien had plans in his personal life, so we were going to be out of step because I, at that time, I wanted to move a little more to participate in tournaments.

It's a bit the same thing that happened with Benjamin, I went to see him to tell him about my projects which were and are different from his. I have my life in Paris, my job, he wanted to move to Barcelona and devote himself 100% to padel. It's not for the level that me and Ben decided to go our separate ways. Their projects are similar with Jérémy Scatena so it is very coherent.

  • Regarding his partner Robin Haziza who is the new coach of the France team:

Everything was put on the table before we made the decision to play together for this year 2020. There was no surprise because I was aware of his plan to become coach of the France team. women. Robin introduced me to an aspect of padel whom I did not know, he was kind to me and I thank him again today.

We have a very good memory in Sweden, when we managed to reach the final table. It was a great week!

After that I will not hide it that it is a loss for the France team, Robin is one of the best players on the right in France. For several years he has been in the development of padel in France therefore it is the logical continuation of things for me. His choice leaves a place suddenly and it is also a good thing, it can motivate players who were not far from joining the team.

If I had to make a choice at the moment, I would choose Simon Boissé with whom I beat Jorge De Benito and José Luis Salines, or Jean Thomas Peyrou, with whom I get along very well and off the field. We trained together for a week in Spain, I think we can worry Ben Tison and Jérémy Scatena. Yann Auradou can quickly catch up with the best players on the right. It is really a personal choice because they are people with whom I get along very well and it is something very important for me.

  • Regarding his WPT adventure:

When I was told about the players of padel in Spain the speech was as follows: “against the Spaniards, you have no chance”. It is true that the level is very high from the pre previas.

What is impressive is the number of very good players in Spain. Despite everything, we still managed to finish the 130th world year Ben and me. It is certain for me that the top level is impossible to reach because we are too far behind them.

The way we play surprised more than one on the circuit. With Benjamin we played very quickly very hard. It was a force because we expected the players to be very strong, but they didn't know us at all and we were able to win matches with our atypical game.

You can assimilate me to Jessica Ginier in the girls, because we have a married life, a job in a tennis club which takes us time. We are passionate about this sport. The small difference between us is the fact that I started on the World Padel Tour Last year.

  • Regarding the cancellation of tournaments in France:

I respect the decisions that have been made by the FFT because it should not have been easy. You can never satisfy everyone. What you have to see is that the situation with the Covid has evolved, and certainly that the FFT is working to offer tournaments.

We, as a member of the French team, have to support the French Tennis Federation. If the approach proposed by Jérémy Scatena a few weeks ago aims to develop padel, I will support it with great pleasure.
