At 39 years, Alejandra Salazar is one of the major figures in world padel, with 59 professional titles to her credit. Yet even with such experience, the Spanish player admits to living in FIP World Cup Pairs a new emotion, different from that of usual tournaments.
"It's a special moment, you feel it from day one," she explains from the Kuwait Arenawhere the players spend their days training, competing, and focusing exclusively on this unique event. "The atmosphere is different; you feel like you're playing for something bigger than the usual goals of a tournament. Of course, the competition counts towards the rankings, but here, points aren't everything. Whoever wins becomes world champion"And it's a title every player dreams of winning since the beginning of their career."
For Salazar, the stakes went beyond the sporting and statistical aspects. The prestige of the title gave the tournament a symbolic value which transcends the season. "Every player here is driven by extra motivation. The organization reflects the importance of this championship and, even if we arrive at the end of the season with some fatigue, this motivation makes up for everything. We want to go all the way, because this title has a truly unique value."
