Eliminated in the first round of the  Buenos Aires P1  with  Tino Libaak,   Alex Chozas  has had a particularly difficult week. Beaten at home in a tournament he was eagerly anticipating, the young Argentinian then had to face  a wave of criticism and hateful messages on social media. 

Faced with this situation, the 22-year-old player decided to speak out publicly to remind people of a reality sometimes forgotten in professional sport: behind the results and performances, there are also human beings.

A tough defeat at home

The Buenos Aires tournament meant a lot to Alex Chozas. Playing in front of his home crowd, the Argentinian arrived with real ambitions alongside Tino Libaak after several encouraging results in recent weeks.

But the Argentinian pair fell in their first match against  Maxi Sánchez  et  Juani Rubini beaten  6 / 3 7 / 5  in slow playing conditions that didn't really suit their style.

A frustrating sporting defeat, but one that should have remained within the bounds of the field.

After the match, social media quickly erupted, with many harsh comments targeting Chozas in particular. Some messages questioned his attitude on the track, while others went much further.

The young Argentinian finally chose to respond via a message posted on Instagram:

“It’s never easy to read certain things after a match. We know that winning and losing are part of the sport, but sometimes certain lines are crossed and it really hurts.”

Before adding:

“Behind every player, there are people, efforts, and families who also read these messages and who are suffering.”

A strong message, shared by many players and observers of the circuit, as the pressure linked to social networks becomes increasingly present in professional padel.

At just 22 years old, Alex Chozas is one of the most closely watched young talents on the circuit. His expressive temperament on the court and his highly emotional way of experiencing matches have allowed him to create a real connection with the public.

But this exhibition also attracts more criticism, especially in a context where every result is immediately commented on on social media.

Some internet users did not hesitate to question his behavior or his level after this elimination in Buenos Aires, sometimes forgetting the difficulty of the very highest level and the permanent instability experienced by many players on the circuit.

Despite the disappointment and attacks received, Alex Chozas wanted to conclude his message with more perspective and positivity.

“We will continue to move forward, to work and to give our all as always. Thank you to those who continue to support us in difficult times.”
