Alvaro Montiel Caruso is a young 19-year-old Spanish player, currently 107th in the world. He was found at FIP Rise Bandol, alongside the Italian Marco Cassetta. Together, they notably won against Maxime Joris and Bastien Blanqué.

At the microphone Padel Magazine, one of the young hopes of the padel Spanish looks back on his young career, his beginnings in sport and his ambitions for the future.

Le padel : in the blood since childhood

I think it is important to say, first of all, that my father was a football player padel professional (Gonzalo Montiel) and that he is now a professional trainer. When I was 4/5 years old, my parents already had a club padel.

It was at that age that I started playing, asking people to play with me. I was also playing football at this time. But around the age of 9, I decided to really start playing padel, to train very seriously, to play my first tournaments.

A life dedicated to padel

I trained with my father, who is still my main coach. It's thanks to him that I find myself here, that I play in these professional tournaments. I always say that it was the best thing that could have happened to me, to be able to do what I really wanted. I was able to engage professionally in a sport that requires a lot of sacrifice, both financially, physically… You are always far from your family.

From now on, I train part of the year in Barcelona, in one of the academies but I live in Turin. However, I still train with my father and with Marco [Cassetta] who lives in the same place.

His goals for the future

My goal this year is to finish in the top 100. Today, I am 107th in the world so I think it's entirely possible. So that's my short-term goal.

Obviously, in the long term, I dream of being number 1. If that's not possible, be in the top 10... and I'll do everything to achieve my goal.

Gwenaelle Souyri

It was his brother who one day told him to accompany him on a track. padel, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the broadcast of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
