Only at 17 years , Andrea Ustero is already a player who counts on the professional padel circuit. Last year, she impressed alongside Alejandra Alonso , achieving several big performances and notably securing a place for the Premier Padel Barcelona Finals . After a 2024 season in which she confirmed all her talent, the Catalan player is looking forward with ambition towards 2025 in an interview given to Brand.
A clear objective: to enter the top 8
After finishing 9th world pair in 2024 , Andrea Ustero wants to take a step forward this season:
“The goal is to get into the top 8. We stopped at 9th place again, so now we have to beat the top seeds and move up a notch.” A logical ambition after his performance in 2024, but which will require an additional effort against the best pairs on the circuit.
A solid duo with Alejandra Alonso
Unlike some young players who prefer to team up with a more experienced partner to progress, Ustero continues to focus on Alejandra Alonso , an 18-year-old player. For her, it’s an advantage: “We get along very well off the pitch, and I think that’s essential. We trust each other and support each other. That’s important to play calmly.”
Despite some requests during the off-season, Ustero and Alonso have decided to continue their adventure together , with the mission of shaking up the established order.
A meteoric rise
Her arrival at the highest level was rapid, but the young Spaniard keeps her feet on the ground:
“It’s the result of the work I’ve been doing since I started playing padel at the age of 8. I’ve always wanted to compete with the best to progress.”
The change of life that this career implies does not scare her, even if she recognizes that the constant travel is not always easy:
“Traveling at such a young age is not easy. Fortunately, my family accompanies me whenever possible, and I am lucky to be able to count on my coach.”
A physical challenge met
If she already had the technical qualities to compete with the elite, Physical work was a key element in his progression . Ustero admits:
“Before, I didn't like physical preparation at all, but I understood how fundamental it was. Now, I train every day and even double some sessions.” This new rigor has allowed him to move forward, particularly in the management of long matches and consecutive tournaments.
An ambitious young player
Andrea Ustero knows she still has a long way to go to reach the top of world padel, but she doesn't hide her ambitions: “Becoming number one is not yet a reality, but I will fight to get there one day.”
Ustero is clearly one of the players to follow in 2025 .
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
