When the players ranked No. 2 and 3 on the A1 circuit padel let their relief burst after a victory against a pair hovering around 80th place, we suspect that there is something fishy going on.
This was the case on Tuesday evening while the Arce/Dal Bianco pair played their 16th final of the Marbella Master against the young Zamora/Gonzalez pair. By young, we mean that both players are 16 years old.
And they are proof that age is never an indicator of level. Indeed, they pushed their famous evening opponents to do their utmost to eliminate them from the tournament. The match lasted three sets, for a final score of 6/4 6/7 6/4.
Zamora/Gonzalez never gave up
The public who stayed until almost midnight could not have been disappointed with his decision. We actually saw two young people bravely trying their luck. Even trailing 5/4 40-0 in the last set, they never gave up. We could have thought they were back in the match when the score returned to 40-30 but a direct error condemned them.
We will also note that at 4/4 in the third set, it was on a ball that hesitated to pass the net that the pair Arce/Dal Bianco was able to win the game. Dal Bianco did not, moreover, couldn't help but express his joy at having managed to win this decisive point thanks to a hand of fate, before rushing to apologize to his young opponent.
A future to watch
As we said, it's not every day that such highly ranked players celebrate a victory that could have been trivial against players who were not even born in the same century as them. We therefore advise aficionados to follow this pair with particular attention which, if it manages to maintain this dynamic, will do very badly in the years (or even months) to come.
