The French champion of padel in title, Bastien Blanqué, looks back on his season in Spain in 2018 with “ups and downs”, his work done to improve, but also on his news with his change of partner, his preparation to be even stronger this season on the professional circuit of padel. Interview with this atypical profile.

  • 2018, a season with more and less ...

The season has been a full season. The results are mixed even if we achieve a nice finish with in particular the title of champions of France with Johan (Bergeron) acquired last September at Toulouse Padel Club.
But it is true that we had with my partner a difficult start to the season, with some defeats on the French circuit. In May and June, it was complicated, our game was not too much in place and I had a big empty passage.
  • During the season, did you change your preparation?

If we hadn't done anything, we would certainly have had a white season. That's why in July, we changed a few things with Jo on and off the pitch.
The other element that has certainly made the difference on the 2e part of the season is my work done with a mental trainer on Toulouse. It helps me a lot. And we could see the difference.
  • A season that is not so bad

No, precisely, we made up for it in this second part of the season. Since August, we have found a very good level of play which has enabled us to obtain a second title of Champions of France and a good end of the season.
A complicated start but it ends well
All in all it is positive because we learn from our mistakes to be able to progress in our project while keeping our title of Champion, a season which I think has made us grow.
  • For 2019, we saw that there was change ...

It starts with a change of partner in Spain for, what vJo and me. This reinforces the previous idea, a change that I think will be beneficial for us to progress and pass capes.
For this new season, as you could see I stayed a little in the shade for 2 months, I favored a big pre-season with a long and intense physical preparation. For more than 2 years now I work with Sport Pro Health, a fitness center in Toulouse and I am more than satisfied.
In late February I finished my preparation, I also focus on the search for sponsors and funding this year ... After that return to Madrid the 24 February!

  • You are the last French side gentlemen in Madrid now.

Indeed, I am still based in Madrid in the same club Sanset Padel with the team Babolat.

This year, I still have the chance to be in a high level training group, always with my coach Ramiro Choya and with the return of Paquito Navarro.

We are 9 in the band with: Paquito, Juan Lebron, Alex Ruiz, Martin Sanpi, Peter Alonso, Alba Galan, Victoria Iglesias and Jacobo Cendon my partner.

Every morning, training with the group, our coach makes us turn so I had the privilege of training several times with Paquito Navarro.

  • Do you have a specific physical preparation in Spain?

For physical preparation, I'm going to work with Juan Lopez who is director of a private center in the center of Madrid and who works in coordination with my trainers in France (Sport Pro Santé), which is very interesting for the follow-up on the season.

I'm starting to really feel the result of this long prep, I'm happy with my fitness and my level of play right now.

  • Your partners, your season start

For my partners, in France, I will obviously always play with Johan!

However, all the competitions in Spain will be played with Jacobo Cendon, a southpaw who plays very well, it's interesting to play with a southpaw. The sensations are different.

The first pre-qualification tournament at the Marbella Masters was disappointing on the pure but encouraging result on the personal side.

We lose 7 / 6 to the 3th set by having 4 match balls to 5 / 3 for us in the 3e set. A bit annoying because there was a package on the tour after. It's a shame because a small opportunity was there but happy with my level of play on this first tournament in Marbella.
