Even among the world best players, a separation can be difficult. Not to accept, because it is the harsh law of paddle, and professionals are used to the challenges, but mentally it remains trying. For the Spaniard Bea Gonzalez, playing with Delfi Brea and fighting for the world first place was a dream. She believed in it with all her heart. However, despite good results when she is at 100%, the year 2024 has been very complicated due to recurring injuries.
Shortly before the Master Finals In Barcelona, Bea had also let slip a few words about her disappointment at not being able to accompany, once again, her Argentinian partner:
"As many of you already know, I will not be able to play the Finals in Barcelona next week, which means the 2024 season is over for me.
In Milan I injured myself again, this time in another area of the pectoral, which prevented me from finishing the final.
This has been by far the most mentally challenging year of my career. I have been living the negative side of the sport most of the year. But I don't want to lament, because if this experience has taught me anything, it's that we are privileged to be able to do what we do: travel the world, train, compete, be healthy and get up every day to work, in one way or another, at what we love.
For my part, I had to work on healing myself, taking care of myself, spending many hours in physiotherapy, with doctors, doing tests, living with uncertainty, bad and good news… In general, a lot of stress. This also led my body to ask me to stop, to reset myself physically and mentally, to approach a year 2025 that, I hope, will be full of joy.
If the year 2025 is hoped for full of joys, she will not be alongside her "sister" Delfi Brea. Despite all her efforts, Bea saw her partner succumb to a tempting proposal from Gemma Triay, often considered one of the best strikers in the worldIn this case, it is the young Claudia Fernandez who finds herself without a partner, and she should play alongside Bea Gonzalez.
Bea reacted emotionally to this separation:
“As many of you already know, Delfi and I will not be playing together in 2025.
It is a decision that, although I sincerely respect it, makes me very sad. It has not been an easy year and, personally, it was the most beautiful project of my career, the one in which I had placed all my ambition to achieve our goal of becoming number 1.
I have enjoyed every day spent with you: the training, the trips, the victories, the defeats. I have learned so much with you, and I have experienced some of the most emotional and incredible moments on the field, to the point that I have tears in my eyes thinking about our paths separating.
We built something very beautiful, and I think people felt it and shared it with us, which makes me very happy.
Heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make Delfi and Bea so special.
There will be no Brea/Gonzalez duo in 2025, but the best part of it all will remain: a sister for life."
For now, nothing official, but the duo Claudia Fernandez and Bea Gonzalez could well be very vengeful in 2025. Behind the fine words, they will be keen to prove that those who abandoned them were wrong.
