The  Italy Major  should not lead to a change in the FIP ranking for women. If  Gemma Triay  et  Delfi Brea  remain firmly established at the top of the FIP world rankings, the current momentum is clearly in favor of  Paula Josemaría  et  Bea González who arrive in Rome with five consecutive titles and, in a very particular scenario, a mathematical possibility of seeing Bea become world number 1.

A hypothesis that is still far off, but which illustrates how much the balance of power has shifted in recent months on the women's circuit.

Race 2026 turns in favor of Josemaría and González

To understand the situation, we need to distinguish between two classifications.

The first is the  Race 2026 which only takes into account results obtained since the beginning of the season. And in this hierarchy, the trend is very clear:  Paula Josemaría and Bea González are currently the best performing players of the year. .

Thanks to their five consecutive titles, they possess approximately  440 points ahead  on their main rivals,  Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay .

This Race reflects the current form of the players and confirms that the Spanish pair is currently the one dominating the circuit.

The FIP ranking tells a different story

The official world ranking works differently.

Le  FIP ranking  is calculated over the last twelve months and takes into account the results accumulated throughout the past year. This system naturally favors the most consistent pairs over a long period.

In this hierarchy,  Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea  still maintain a comfortable lead of nearly  2 500 points  on their pursuers.

This comfortable lead is largely due to their exceptional consistency since the beginning of their partnership. Despite several recent final losses against Josemaría and González, they continue to accumulate points at a rapid pace.

Why Bea González can still dream

The arrival of the Major from Rome, however, reshuffles some of the cards. And the Marca newspaper has clearly understood this.

As in every tournament, points earned in the previous edition gradually disappear from the rankings before being replaced by those of the current edition. This point defense mechanism sometimes creates unexpected opportunities.

In the present case,  Bea González  is the only player with a mathematical possibility of reaching the world number one ranking as soon as the Italian tournament ends.

For this scenario to occur, several very favorable conditions would need to be met: a final victory for the pair  Josemaría / González  and early elimination of  Triay / Brea .

In other words, the probability remains low. But it does exist.

A change of reign seems more likely this summer.

While Rome could theoretically cause an earthquake at the top of the standings, the following deadlines seem to offer more realistic prospects.

The sporting momentum is currently on the side of Bea González and Paula Josemaría, while Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea will have to continue to defend a significant number of points acquired last year.

Tournaments  Valencia ,  Valladolid  and the rest of the summer tour could therefore prove decisive in the race for the world number one spot.
