The last P1 of the season is being played in Milan, a tournament that will remain etched in the history of padel. This Thursday, December 5, marks the end of an era: that of Fernando Belasteguín, the padel legend, played his last professional match. After 35 years career at most high level, the one who inspired a whole generation takes his retirement.
In such a special atmosphere, in front of his wife, his children and all the best current padel players, "Bela" will have ended up hanging up his racket. Associated with the young V. Libaak, the two Argentinians were unable to find the key to overcoming the pair J. Garrido / L. Bergamini. At the end of a tight match, against the tournament's 7th seed, the god of padel retired. We could have hoped to see him postpone his last dance, but the important points always went in favor of their opponents. This last match still allowed us to admire everything that the Argentinian knew how to do on the court. Bandeja, smashs… he will have delighted us again for his final match, at the height of his 45 years.
Very moved, very honored and warmly applauded at the end of the match, Belasteguín could not contain his tears. The one who reigned unchallenged over padel for 16 consecutive years bows out. It is with a feeling of happiness and peace that he leaves the circuit. "I am very happy and relieved (...) I was afraid to play this season, but after this last match, I am happy," he declared hot off the press.
Le King, who inspired many, was honored in every speech at the end of the matches today in Milan. Before him, Wall et Coello, the world number 1s, thanked him for everything he has done for padel. Tears were also present among his opponents of the evening. The padel legend leaves as a true hero in the eyes of all. It is with pride that the man with 230 titles won leaves the international scene. "We have a spectacular sport, and I have never seen padel reach such a level. I am reassured and very serene about its future," he concluded.
He can be sure that padel will do well in the coming years, having dedicated his entire life to this sport. He can be very proud to see how this discipline, still unknown to the general public a few years ago, is becoming one of the most popular racket sports in the world.
Thank you, Legend!
I took a bubble in my first tournament Padel. Since then, it has become a passion,
with one goal: to never again finish a game without scoring a goal. This sport is
now an integral part of my life, to the point of leaving feathers there. I often burn myself
elbows trying to catch all the balls. "A true love story."
