The French Johan Bergeron and Bastien Blanqué delivered a very good performance this Monday in the first round of the main draw of Bordeaux Premier Padel P2. Facing the formidable Argentinian pair Sanyo Gutiérrez / Gonzalo Alfonso, the Tricolores lost in two tight sets: 7 / 6 6 / 4, at the end of an intense and close match.
A cannon start for the French
From the start, the French showed their teeth. With better form, they took advantage of numerous unforced errors from their opponents to break at 1/1. Blanqué, in great form, made the difference. But Sanyo and Alfonso were quick to react, raising their game and breaking back in the process. The match escalated in intensity. Despite conceding a break, Bergeron and Blanqué didn't give up, clawing back to 4/4 and securing three break points in the following games.
Sanyo, nervous at the start of the match, was put under pressure. But the Argentine veteran's experience made the difference in key moments. The Argentinians kept the hot balls at bay and snatched the tiebreak, which they dominated 7-3 with renewed authority.
Resistance to the end
The second set continued on the same lines. This time, it was Johan Bergeron who showed his touch and vision. At 2/2, a slight lapse on the French side allowed the Argentinians to take the lead. But once again, the French reacted immediately and pulled back. The fight was all-out. At 4/4, Sanyo and Alfonso toughened up their game and forced the French into making mistakes. The break was fatal: the Argentinians finished 6/4 after 1 hour and 40 minutes of play.

A benchmark match despite the defeat
Although beaten, Bergeron and Blanqué delivered a great performance, against a world top pair. They finished with statistics very close to their opponents (3 break points converted against 4), proof that The difference was made in details and experience in the hot moments.
Heading for Narbonne
Their Bordeaux adventure ends here, but the French can leave with their heads held high. Their level of play shows great promise. We'll see them again next week at FIP Silver Set Padel Narbonne, for a new challenge on French soil.

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
