For their entry into the running Bordeaux P2, Léa Godallier and the Spanish Laura Lujan Rodriguez, beneficiaries of a wild card, faced a formidable pair: Beatriz Caldera Sanchez et Carmen Goenaga Garcia, both members of the world top 20. A real challenge for the Franco-Spanish pair… which they took on with panache, especially in a first set very close, before yielding 7/6(6) 6/1.
The beginning of the meeting is ultra balancedNeither team can find a faults on return, which allows each of hold one's faceoffs without shaking. Godallier and Luján make the difference to the flight, while their opponents distinguished themselves in their engagements with a more vertical and powerful game, notably in Smash.
At 5/5, things are getting faster: Godallier and Luján intensify the pressure, procure break balls, but fail to convert them. So we head towards a tie-breaker, tense, tense… And that’s where the Spanish women show all their mental toughness, with fewer unforced errors, to win 8-6.
The second set changed more quickly. The efforts made in the first act left their mark: lucidity decreases, the faults are piling up on the side French-Spanish (14 against 9 in the set), and the pair Goenaga / Caldera accelerates. More regular, more efficient in key moments (3 break points converted out of 3), they set sail.
Goenaga, very lively, multiplies the “rulos” and winning smashes, While Caldera assures. Result: a 6/1 en 26 minutes, which closes part of 1h25 in total.

Despite the defeat, Léa Godallier et Laura Lujan have shown that they could shake up pairs in the top 20, especially in a first set of high level, where they knew create opportunities. As is often the case with these seasoned players, the difference is made in the important moments, but there is something positive to be learned from this part.

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
