The women's quarter-finals of the Buenos Aires P1 They lived up to all expectations. Even though some favorites had to battle for over two hours, the top four seeds will all be in the semifinals. An intense day, without any real surprises, but with several huge matches.
Josemaría / Gonzalez survive the huge battle against the “Alejandras”
The match of the day was clearly the one between:
Paula Josemaría / Bea González et Alejandra Salazar / Alejandra Alonso .
A spectacular encounter where the world's number 2 players came very close to disaster.
The first set was extremely close. The rallies were tense, the crowd completely engrossed in the match, and the two pairs traded blows. Finally, Paula and Bea found the break at the perfect moment to clinch the set. 7/5 .
But then, the “Alejandras” delivered what was probably their best set of the tournament. Very aggressive, relaxed, and inspired, they completely stifled Paula and Bea to level the score decisively. 6/2 .
The start of the third set became tense. Breaks came thick and fast, the tension rose another notch, and the match seemed poised to swing either way. But in the crucial moments: Bea González takes complete control .
The player from La Malaguène suddenly raised her level of play, dominated the important exchanges and led her pair to victory with a final set won: 6/2 .
Another huge battle won by the world's number 2s, who continue to impress mentally.
Fernandez / Araújo defeat Jensen / Icardo
In the other most closely contested quarter-final of the day: Claudia Fernández / Sofia Araújo
had to work to eliminate: Tamara Icardo / Claudia Jensen .
The match began strongly for Icardo and Jensen, who were very solid tactically and aggressive in the crucial moments. They deservedly took the first set. 6/3 .
But behind them, Sofia Araújo and Claudia Fernández gradually gained momentum. More patient, physically stronger, and much more dominant in the rallies, they completely reversed the dynamic.
They ultimately won the next two rounds: 6 / 3 6 / 1 .
Sanchez / Ustero unfold completely
In the other part of the table:
Ari Sánchez / Andrea Ustero
delivered the most impressive performance of the day.
Facing: Marta Ortega / Martina Calvo ,
The Spanish pair left their opponents absolutely no chance with a swift victory:
6 / 0 6 / 2 .
Andrea Ustero impressed once again
Very aggressive, ultra dominant in the exchange and particularly inspired offensively, the young Spaniard showed why she is already one of the best players in the world despite her young age.
Triay/Brea qualified without playing
Finally, the world number 1s: Gemma Triay / Delfi Brea
qualified directly for the semi-finals after the withdrawal of:
Lucía Martínez / Águeda Pérez ,
Lucía Martínez is suffering from a muscle injury.
A dream semi-final in Buenos Aires
The final four are now known and promise a huge spectacle:
- Gemma Triay / Delfi Brea vs Claudia Fernández / Sofia Araújo
- Ari Sánchez / Andrea Ustero vs Paula Josemaría / Bea González
The four best pairs in the world will all be present in the semi-finals of the Buenos Aires P1 .
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
