Essential of padel French only a year ago, Julien Maigret has since taken some distance from the French circuit. We went to meet him to understand why he has hardly played this season.

A year and a half ago, we introduced you to Julien Maigret, then serious contender to join the France team after a very successful 2017 season and with only two years of padel behind him. The great Parisian guy even continued his momentum to reach 7th place in the French ranking in November 2018.

Imperial during the French victory at the Padel Nations Cup in the Netherlands for his first selection, he was clearly one of the favorites to accompany the inevitable that are his brother Adrien, Benjamin Tison, Johan Bergeron, Bastien Blanqué, Jeremy Scatena and Robin Haziza in Paraguay.

A little over a year after this non-selection, Julien is now 194th in the ranking of padel French with only 4 tournaments on the clock (and all the same 2925 points!). Questioned by us, the one who was absent at the last championships of France and has not been seen in tournaments since a quarter-final at P2000 Bordeaux with Florian Landtsheere explains everything:

Le padel competing requires a lot of training, time, you have to be away most weekends. I made enormous physical, financial and family efforts for tennis from the age of 7 (until I reached 500th place in ATP). Today I am 36 years old, I am the father of a little girl who will soon be two years old. I gave a lot for tennis, I no longer wish to do so for padel, I prefer to enjoy my family life. Especially since my work as “Sports manager of the tennis club of Beynes” already takes me a lot of time ...

Obviously disappointed not to have been able to be part of the French selection in Paraguay in 2018, the one who also gives lessons of padel in Bois d'Arcy did not completely stop the padel however:

I was inevitably disappointed not to have been selected for the world championships, at that time I think that I had the results and the level to be potentially selected… Today I still play a little padel, I'm even able to annoy my little brother a bit (laughs).

For those who would like to see this former winner of the small Aces and his superb hand on tournaments again, it will be necessary to be patient. Although he has not yet planned his comeback on the main tournaments of padel, Julien admits that he “may be a small tournament one of these four"... why not with his brother? Case to follow!

Xan is a fan of padel. But also rugby! And his posts are just as punchy. Physical trainer of several padel, he unearths atypical posts or deals with topical subjects. It also gives you some tips to develop your physique for the padel. Clearly, he imposes his offensive style as on the field of padel !
